Star Wars legend Mark Hamill pays tribute to Janey Godley after Scots comic announces she’s leaving X

STAR Wars legend Mark Hamill has paid tribute to Scots comic Janey Godley after she announced that she would be leaving social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

Hamill, who famously portrayed Luke Skywalker in George Lucas’ franchise, was among the first to send well wishes to the much-loved funnywoman.

Godley, who underwent a hysterectomy whilst battling stage three ovarian cancer, yesterday posted an image of a screen showing her Janey: On Screen and On Stage Live show.

The image shows Godley stood against a brick wall on a large screen with Godley snapping the image just before her performance at Greenock’s Beacon Theatre last night.

Alongside the image, she paid tribute to those who’ve shown her love and kindness, writing: “I can’t thank everyone so please know your outpouring of love and affection is well-received.

“I will deactivate this account tomorrow night (Thursday) at 7pm.”

Godley’s decision comes following a decrease in her presence on the social media platform, with the comedian stating that she only logs in “once a month to see how the hate crime bill is going”.

Godley previously stated earlier this month that she would be deactivating her account but logged in again yesterday for a “flying visit” to promote her recent work.

Hamill has since replied to Godley’s announcement that she would be deactivating her account again later today with warm words saying: “You will be missed, Janey.”

The 72-year-old concluded his post by adding a red love heart emoji in a show of love and solidarity to the Scots comic.

Godley’s post received over 6,300 likes with hundreds of comments from fans and well-wishers of the comedian.

Godley herself replied directly to Hamill, saying: “Thanks my darling.”

Gina Louise Young said: “I’m so sorry you are deactivating your account. I missed you when you vanished and now you’re leaving us. I only do X/Twitter. Take care.”

Dr Meenal Viz said: “You will be missed. Thank you for bringing us joy.”

Cynthia Young said: “Check in occasionally Janey. We miss you, especially me in the USA who can’t make it to your shows.”

Ian Rogers said: “Sending you so much love to you and the family, you are so lovely, and no one can take that away.”

Godley shot to worldwide recognition following her controversial sign reading: “Trump is a c**t.”

The sign went viral after Godley stood with it as then Presidential nominee Trump arrived at his golf course in Turnberry, Ayrshire in June 2016.
