Burrito Picante to open Scottish sites after all-cash acquisition

BURRITO Picante is set to expand UK-wide with new sites in Scotland over the next two years, thanks to Edison Capital’s acquisition.

The growing conglomerate, headquartered in Ayrshire, has interests in property, construction, hospitality and leisure, and acquired the quick service restaurant (QSR), Burrito Picante, in an all-cash deal.

The Mexican food-themed business was founded in 2012, with sites in Sheffield and Altrincham, Trafford.

The plans for expansion this year include Manchester, Liverpool and Glasgow, with further 2025 openings including Edinburgh, Birmingham, London and Leicester.

Edison Capital‘s CEO, Calum Melville, said: “We believe there is significant growth potential through franchising to expand the Burrito Picante brand UK wide and internationally through a franchising model.

“We will manage Burrito Picante through our subsidiary business, MMI Raptor, a specialist provider of contract catering, facilities management, temporary and permanent staffing, vending machines and Food and Beverage (F&B) services across the UK.”

Burrito Picante’s acquisition follows the launch of a QSR vending machine brand, Pizza Rebel, by MMI Raptor.

The vending machines offer freshly cooked hot pizza, with choices of toppings, 24 hours a day in two south of England healthcare sites.

There are plans to open 50 sites across the UK this year.

New managing director, Iain Harben, will be leading MMI Raptor, which operates in Langlands Business Park, East Kilbride.

Mr Harben said: “I am pleased to have been appointed to my new role as MD of MMI Raptor and believe I can make a significant contribution to helping the business fulfil its substantial potential.”
