STRATHALLAN Prep School pupil, Amelia Shahbaz, beat junior and senior entries to win Perthshire’s Young Photographer of the Year.
The talented 12-year-old won the award from the Rotary Club of Perth Kinnoull, along with Junior Photographer of the Year, with her entry ‘Palette of the Soul’.
Amelia was shocked by the win and said: “I am thrilled to be named Young Photographer of the Year.
“Receiving a new camera as the top prize has made me so excited to further explore and develop my photography skills.”
The Head of Art at Strathallan, Francis Glancy, said: “Amelia should be incredibly proud. The Young Perthshire Photographer of the Year is a prestigious award and I know from the submissions I’ve seen she was up against some brilliant young artists.
“It’s fantastic to see Strathallan pupils continue to showcase their skills and get recognised for their talent.”
Strathallan Prep School homes an award-winning art department that teaches its pupils a range of skills from traditional drawing and painting in every medium, graphic design, textiles, film photography and animation.
The department was opened by Scottish artist Sir Eduardo Paolozzi, and includes studios for ceramic making, printmarking and a dark room. There is also an outdoor patio and an art cafe.
Students from the prep school routinely take part in high-profile exhibitions and competitions, with many students being recognised at high levels.
Recently, Strathallan student Chloe T was named Senior Young Artist of the Year by the Rotary Club of Perth Kinnoull, with her piece named ‘Warrior’.
