WATCH the surprise moment Sophie Ellis-Bextor takes to the stage in a Swiss pub with Irish band Blue Moose for a performance of her chart-topper Murder on the Dancefloor.
Blue Moose were performing a gig for punters at Paddy Reilly’s Irish pub in the Swiss capital of Zurich for St Patrick’s Day on Sunday when the pop star made a surprise appearance.
Climbing on stage, the pop star stunned both the band, from Sligo, County Sligo, and audience members alike with a right-place-right-time cameo performance.
Video shows Blue Moose up on stage in the popular city centre pub as Ellis-Bextor, 44, approaches from the crowd, apparently out for a pint prior to a Monday gig.
Dressed in a black skirt, pink cardigan and sporting a handbag, the chart-topping artist leaves the band members visibly shocked as they strum out the instrumental of her tune.
Not breaking their stride though, the band welcome Ellis-Bextor to the stage to the cheers and screams of excited punters.
Ellis-Bextor, from Hounslow, West London, then treats the pub to a full performance of her tune – which re-entered the UK Singles Charts and reached number two in January this year after featuring in popular 2023 movie Saltburn.
Dancing and singing along with pubgoers and performers alike, the musician looks to be having the time of her life as she wishes everyone a happy St Patrick’s Day.
The footage was shared to social media yesterday with the caption: “Sophie Ellis-Bextor performing Murder on the Dancefloor with a random band from Sligo was not on the 2024 bingo card but here we are.”
It has since gained 2,200 likes and dozens of comments from users left stunned by the Brit Award winner’s surprise appearance.
One user said: “Imagine how we felt. I thought I was hallucinating when she walked on stage.”
Another added: “She always struck me as a one that would be mad for the craic with a few [vodkas] in her… fair play
“Always liked her.”
A third wrote: “Blue Moose were my wedding band, lads are unreal!”
Another commented: “I can say that I’ve seen both live. Just brilliant.”
