Scots legal firm wins “landmark” litigation on behalf of US clients

GILSON Gray, a Scottish full-service legal firm, is celebrating a successful defence of its American clients, Lime Rock partners, in a multi-million dollar court case.

Last week Robert Kidd, a prominent oil and gas businessman, raised the the single biggest damages claim in Scottish legal history at the Court of Session in Edinburgh.

The case centred around an investment deal involving ITS Tubular service – a North Sea drilling company set up by Mr Kidd in 1989.

Lime Rock, a US-based private equity house, was sold a miniority stake in the company in 2009.

Mr Kidd made multiple allegations arising from this deal but senior Court of Session Judge, Lord Tyre, dismissed every claim presented by the businessman.

Gilson Gray’s team of litigation and dispute specialists – which included Alex Garioch, Fraser Cameron and Iain Grant – acted on behalf of Lime Rock and welcomed the judge’s decision.

Partner at Gilson Gray, Alex Garioch, said: “In what was the highest value commercial litigation case in Scottish history, we were delighted that our client’s position was entirely vindicated.

“We at Gilson Gray are proud to have successfully represented such a high-profile client in an extremely complex litigation.

“In this case, our team’s experience in the oil and gas sector complemented our litigation and dispute resolution work to reach such a positive outcome for our client.”
