BRITS have raised concerns over “cheap” e-bikes after one of the vehicles exploded in the middle of a busy London street.
The bike, alleged to belong to a delivery driver, burst into flames as passersby watched on in Shepherd’s Bush, West London.
Recorded by an onlooker, video footage sees cars at a standstill in the capital as the bike lets off a series of bangs and pops before sending fireballs flying into the air.
The clip shows a queue of stationary cars on the busy road, framed by a thin layer of smoke as pedestrians and cyclists mill around.
Suddenly, a loud bang can be heard, and passersby look on in the direction of the sound as a small orange fireball soars skyward before fizzling out.
The smoke in the air appears to drift inward from outside a Domino’s pizza restaurant where an e-bike lies on its side.
Three more bangs can be heard in quick succession as the street is lit up with the glow of fire.
Flames sporadically shoot out of the electric bike accompanied by loud pops and bangs as the watching crowd look on in disbelief.
The footage of the scary incident was shared to social media yesterday with the caption: “E-bike exploding happened in Shepherd’s Bush tonight.”
It has since received over 640 likes and dozens of comments from users who aired their concerns over the quality of e-bikes being used on Britain’s roads.
One user said: “Your favourite form of transport is providing a cheap winter fireworks display.”
Another added: “Saving the planet one huge toxic smoky cloud at a time.”
A third wrote: “That’s what happens when they fiddle with them to make them faster and use cheap batteries.”
Another replied: “This is what will happen to all the cheap Chinese BYD electric vehicles once they land here.”
