Sheer Audi-city: Scots locals left fuming after selfish driver blocks Edinburgh Trams route

SCOTS locals were left fuming after a selfish driver blocked the tram service in the capital city for over two hours after parking on the tracks.

The incident unfolded just after rush hour on Edinburgh’s Leith Walk, just yards from the Foot of the Walk tramp stop.

Frustrated passengers were forced off after a white Audi was left abandoned by the side of the road with its rear end jutting out and blocking the tram’s path.

Tram stuck behind the car
The tram was heading to Edinburgh Airport when it was held up by a car on the road.

Police were called to the scene whilst disgruntled commuters were directed onto Lothian Buses, with the car eventually being removed and trams returning to full service over two hours later.

Images captured by a Leith local show the car parked outside of the Domino’s Pizza on Leith Walk with the rear bumper sticking out onto the tram lines.

The tram has pulled up just a few feet short of the back of the car, unable to pass and creating a bottleneck with other trams left waiting at stations.

A further video shows holidaymakers standing on the island between the two lanes of traffic on Leith Walk with their luggage, waiting hopelessly.

The tram driver can be seen in dialogue with someone behind him whilst the police sit in their car waiting to chat to the owner of the Audi.

The car was eventually towed away, and trams returned to running a full service at around 9:20pm – over two hours after the ordeal first began.

Edinburgh Trams took to social media writing: “Trams are now back running full route from Edinburgh Airport to Newhaven every 10 minutes.

“Thank you for your patience.”

Social media users were quick to comment on the inconvenience with many slamming the driver and calling for harsh penalties for delaying the tram network.

One said: “Trams on its way to the airport too, can only imagine how many pissed off people were on this, imagine missing your holiday because of this absolute bell.”

Another commented: “Of course it would be an Audi driver.”

A third replied: “If I was the driver, I’d rather it was towed away than have the shame of going to collect that car with everyone watching.”

Another wrote: “Tow them and fine them.”

Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
