XL bully allegedly abandoned in Musselburgh by family who took her in now up for adoption again

AN XL BULLY that was allegedly abandoned in a Scots town by the family who took her in has now been put up for adoption again.

Kira, a pooch that was originally sent to Scotland from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire in an attempt to avoid England’s XL bully ban was “found” tied to a lamppost by a family in Musselburgh, East Lothian.

The dog was then handed in to Valley Forge Kennels in North Berwick, East Lothian, who allegedly found that the family who “found” her were the people who originally took her in from her first owners in Huddersfield.

Valley Forge Kennels owner, Caroline Anderson, believed the family got scared by the upcoming XL bully ban in Scotland.

The pooch has been on quite a journey to get here.

Kira later found her way to the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home where she has remained since January – but has now been put up for adoption again in the hopes she can finally find her “forever home”.

Whoever does take the pooch in though, will have to abide by the planned restrictions on the breed being brought into place by the Scottish Government.

Following in Westminster’s footsteps, the Scottish Government has decided to place a number of regulations on the ownership of XL bullies.

An outright ban is set to be put in place over the breeding, selling, exchanging, gifting, advertising, abandoning or allowing of an XL bully to stray.

Kira will also have to be muzzled and on a lead while out in public with her new owner after February 23 when these restrictions come into place in Scotland.

Posting an update on Kira’s status on social media yesterday the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home desperately appealed for an appropriate owner to come forward and adopt Kira.

The post read: “We are urgently looking for Kira’s forever home.

“Kira is a big girl with an even bigger heart. She’s super affectionate and loves being made a fuss of. She’s a cuddle-bug who would like to have company for part of the day.

“She will need to stay on lead when out in public due to breed restrictions, unless she is in a private garden or freedom field, so she needs an owner who is fit enough to keep up with her.

“Kira’s new owner will need to register her for an exemption, however the cost of her rehoming will be lowered to accommodate for the cost of this.

“Extra support will also be offered, more information will be given to successful applicants. Can you give Kira the loving home she deserves?”

The post has since received over 660 likes and more than 90 comments from social media users invested in Kira’s story.

One said: “Be happy to bring my girl down and let them play if helps her progress, let me know.”

Another added: “Absolute beaut (sic) of a dog, if I could, I would take her in a heartbeat with my buddy Odin. Love XL bullies.”

A third wrote: “Hope to God someone takes her. Bloody brutal what’s happening to their breed.”

A fourth replied: “Heartbreaking what the government are doing.”

Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home has been approached for comment.
