Scottish first for talented divorce and child law expert

A SKILLED partner at a top Scottish law firm will enhance the firm’s family law offering after adding the final piece to a qualification puzzle.

Gibson Kerr’s Nadine Martin is now the first lawyer in Scotland accredited by the law society of Scotland as a specialist in Family law, child law, and family mediation along with certifications in both trauma-informed legal practice and people management.

The collaborative lawyer has also become one of 12 solicitors in Scotland to gain an accreditation in Child Inclusive Mediation, which enables lawyers to involve children in the mediation process where appropriate to reach settlements and resolutions within family disputes.

Having expanded its Glasgow office space and team of family law experts last year, Nadine’s accreditation chimes with Gibson Kerr’s wider efforts to consolidate itself as the country’s top family law advisor.

Nadine, Partner at Gibson Kerr said: “There is a real excitement and momentum around expanding our offering into the niche area of family law in Glasgow. My latest accreditation in child inclusive mediation enhances the range of options we can provide to families, helping them navigate separation without going to court.

“We are pushing the boundaries of modern approaches to family law and shaping what it means to be a family lawyer today with a focus on reducing conflict for children of separation.”

With more than 15 years of experience specialising in high conflict divorce and child law, Nadine offers clients a broad range of alternative dispute resolution options.

Gibson Kerr appointed an abundance of family law specialists to its team last year – Senior Associate, Zaynab Al Nasser; Solicitor, Laura Brown and Family Law Administrator, Mhairi Pierce.

Nadine added: “There is a buzz and excitement around new the office at the moment as we find new ways to help people looking for expert advice.

“We are adapting to what life is really like for people nowadays, as opposed to old processes, things that maybe had worked in the past but are becoming dated in recent times. It is important to stay ahead of that curve in order to provide the best possible service for people.

“We have a broad range of specialists who have a very high level of qualification in all forms of dispute resolution.

“The team we have is really at the cutting edge of understanding the impact of separation and divorce on children. It can have lifelong consequences for them and there are ways in which that can be mitigated.

“We are very much leading the charge on this front and its rewarding to be part of a team providing expert support that can genuinely improve lives.”
