Dopey Scots motorist caught driving down cycle lanes in central Glasgow

A DOPEY Scots motorist has been caught driving down one of Glasgow’s dedicated cycle lanes to navigate the busy city’s streets.

The motorist was spotted nonchalantly ambling down the cycle lanes in Gorbals Street last week, which are separated from the lanes of traffic via a strip of pavement.

This obstacle seemed to be no issue for the driver though, who took up the majority of the two-way bike lanes on their daft cruise through the city’s centre.

Video filmed by a cyclist following behind the vehicle show the red Vauxhall Corsa speeding down the red tarmac of the cycle lanes, which are clearly marked with images of bikes and the words “SLOW”.

The driver motors down the lanes though, seemingly ignorant of the clear signs on the ground, swerving to avoid a group of orange traffic cones as the car bumps over a zebra crossing.

The car and the filming cyclist pass by a line of parked vehicles on the road beside them, divided by a clear stretch of raised pavement.

In the distance, a bus can be spotted advancing up the street, albeit in the correct position on the right part of the road.

The cyclist that recorded the incident claims that the motorist behind the wheel of the Corsa was travelling at speeds of 30mph down the cycle lane, adding to the danger.

The footage was shared to social media last week by the unnamed cyclist with the caption: “Get a load of this walloper driving down the cycle lane on Gorbals St.”

The cyclist later added: “Not really sure how the driver missed the markings, but I saw them shoot into there from the junction at like 30mph just before I joined on.

“Not really sure if this should be reported or na (sic).”

The clip has since gained dozens of likes and comments from users shocked by the disorientated driver’s selfish actions.

One user said: “Doubt the police will care to be honest. Council might if the missing (probably removed) bollard is reported to them. Will take them a few years to replace it, mind you.

“Best bet would be local papers to embarrass the police/council into taking action.”

Another added: “100% report it. Someone this stupid is going to kill someone sooner or later.”

A third commented: “Maybe a loved one of theirs was having a crisis and just really needed an emotional support walloper by their side.”

Another replied: “Looks like a confused old person [more] than any malice.”

A fifth claimed: “I’ve seen this a lot on this cycle lane. It’s a badly laid out junction.

“No bollard, makes it too easy for motorists to mistake it for a lane, then once you’re on it there’s no way off unless you mount the pavement.

“One night I saw a massive Aldi delivery truck driving down it, f**k knows how he managed to turn on to it.”

A spokesman for Glasgow City Council today said: “The driving highlighted in this video is a matter for the police.

“This route on Gorbals Street is clearly marked as a cycle lane.”
