AN EVERTON fan was left in stitches after finding his side’s home kit for sale in a shop overseas – but boasting one major difference.
Callum Tait has been travelling for the past five months and is currently in the Luang Prabang region of Laos, in Southeast Asia.
Whilst there, the 28-year-old stumbled across a sports shop selling fake football kits galore, so went hunting for any strips belonging to his beloved Premier League side.
Despite being initially delighted to see his beloved Toffees being represented, Callum quickly noticed the badges printed on the kit were those of the tier below, the English Football League Championship.
Video filmed by Callum, from Liverpool, begins with him holding two Everton home kits from this season complete with the side’s sponsor Stake.com.
The Everton badge looks professional and includes the phrase Nil Satis Nisi Optimum alongside the signature chevrons of Danish manufacturer Hummel.
As he spins the shirt in the air, Callum offers some commentary on the kit, saying: “It’s quite a decent fake to be fair.
“But then why have they got us in the Championship? What the f**k, they’ve got the Sky Bet logo as well.”
The footie-mad Scouser shared the video to social media yesterday writing: “Just found this in some random shop in Laos but what the f**k are those badges all about.”
The clip received over 2,000 likes with dozens of comments from football fans playfully teasing that the shop must be able to see into the future due to Everton’s current struggles.
One said: “Ahead of the curve, they know what’s happening.”
Another added: “Predicting the future.”
A third replied: “The Laos fortune tellers.”
Callum himself quipped: “I reckon they got shipped as soon as the Doucoure goal went in, hopefully not looking into the future like.”
Speaking today, Callum said: “After travelling Europe for five months, I’ve headed over to South East Asia to break up my trip as I’m actually travelling over to Australia.
“I was just walking through the streets of Luang Prabang and I saw a sports shop which looked kind of cool.
“It happened to be purely football shirts and at first I was just happy to see the Everton shirts, it’s so different to see them out here of all places so I didn’t even see the badges.
“I had to double take to actually realise the badges were Championship and not Premier League but I couldn’t stop laughing that someone, somewhere really had prepared for the worst.”
Everton have faced relegation battles in the past couple of seasons, narrowly avoiding going down in 2021/22 when they finished 16th and finishing 17th – just one place above the drop zone – in 2022/23.
The club are due to move to their new Bramley-Moore dock stadium next season and will be keen to avoid moving into their new home whilst in the second tier of English football.
