FRANZ Ferdinand frontman Alex Kapranos has wished the muse behind one of his band’s biggest hits good luck after she announced that she would be running for Parliament.
Jacqueline Cameron was dating the band’s drummer Paul Thomson when Franz Ferdinand were writing material for their first album, and features in the first song named after her on the record.
The politician is already deputy leader of Renfrewshire Council but has now set her sights on Member of Parliament for Paisley and Renfrewshire South following Mhairi Black’s departure.
Jacqueline has previously spoken about knowing the song was about her after she had a run-in with Scots poet Ivor Cutler at the Royal Festival Hall.
Now, the politician has taken to social media to share her delight at featuring in music magazine NME after they published an article about her being the inspiration behind the tune.
Ms. Cameron quoted the article last night before adding her thoughts, writing: “I always wanted to be in the NME.
“I thought my band The Rainmates would be the conduit when I was 18 but surprisingly it’s this.”
She then shared an image of her band in a black and white photograph which shows a man and a woman playing guitar whilst Jacqueline holds the microphone in her hand.
Social media users were quick to comment on the image and heap praise on the local politician.
One said: “Love this.”
Another added: “Well done you.”
Franz Ferdinand frontman Alex Kapranos brought the story to the public after he tweeted yesterday to offer his encouragement to the politician.
He tweeted: “Good luck Jacqueline, I think you’re a wonderful candidate.”
The Take Me Out singer then followed that a few hours later with another tweet, writing: “No longer working on a desk, but working for her constituents instead.”
