AN EXPLORER has shared a video showcasing the sad, dilapidated state that an eerie abandoned Scots hospital has fallen into – after only being closed for six years.
Dale John visited Woolmanhill Hospital in Aberdeen on Saturday and was left surprised at the state the building was in.
The hospital was initially opened way back in 1749, operating for nearly 270 years before it closed in 2017, but now lies in almost unrecognisable ruin.
The video shows Dale, 35, making his way through the ominous building as creepy music plays over the footage.
Dale from Chester, Cheshire shows the exterior of the grey and decaying hospital as he stands in its courtyard to show a 360-degree view of what was once Scotland’s largest hospital.
Dale then makes his way through a corridor littered with rubble and mess from vandals that have passed through over time since its closure.
He then peers out of a window to show a lone, unidentified man standing gazing at his phone whilst leaning on a boarded-up window of one of the buildings.
In one of the rooms shown is abandoned medical equipment and a reclining chair used by the likes of dentists for patients to lie on.
The room still has an operating sink with hand sanitiser and hand towel dispenser but is surrounded by damage and decay.
The next view is from the stairwell, showing walls completely cracked and rubble lying on the staircase as the in-text caption reads: “A lot of the floors are about to collapse, I’m not sure how much longer they’ll last.”
The video then cuts to a blue wheelchair left behind, sitting spookily in a corridor by an ominous sign written on the wall that reads ‘To Refuge’.
The sign points down an inky black basement corridor, with no apparent end to it, and exposed wires hanging down from the ceiling.
Dale uploaded the video to social media on Sunday with the caption: “Abandoned hospital, Scotland.”
The clip has since received over 70,000 likes and more than 1,400 comments from users left in shock at the state of the building given its fairly recent closure.
One user wrote: “Woolmanhill – wasn’t that long ago it was still open…crazy considering the state of the place.”
Another commented: “Woolmanhill Hospital – the lights have been on lately I’m sure I will get turned into flats eventually.”
A third user wrote: “Franky, that’s a massive misjudgment by the government, something that enormous and set up should have been used as homeless accommodation.”
Another joked: “At least you won’t have a 15-hour wait in A&E.”
A fifth replied: “It’s only been six years? Looks more like 100.”
Speaking today Dale said: “The whole place is so dangerous and derelict after only six years.
“It’s massive though, but was mostly f***ed to be fair, it’s a shame really.
“Inside is just dangerous, the floors are all falling through so we didn’t stay long at all, it’s mostly smashed-up rooms.”
In February 2016, plans were revealed to convert the Simpson Pavilion of the grounds into a 52-bed hotel and other buildings into 42 serviced apartments.
Although these plans were approved by the Aberdeenshire Council the work never began and the hospital has been left to ruin, recently becoming a hive for rat infestation.
