Scots high-schooler selected to represent Britain in swimming

A SCOTS high-schooler has been selected to fly the flag for Great Britain and Scotland this summer in swimming.

Strathallan School pupil Evan Davidson will have a very busy summer, having had his selection to Team GB and Team Scotland both confirmed within 24 hours.

First, the 16-year-old will face Europe’s elite swimmers in Slovenia as he competes at the European Youth Olympic Festival for the second time.

Next, Evan from Frogandenny, Perthshire will put his pace to the test against the top young athletes from around the world at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago in August.

Evan’s selection for Team GB and Scotland were both confirmed within 24 hours.

Speaking of his selection, Evan said: “It’s an honour to be selected for the European Youth Olympics and the Commonwealth Youth Games.

“Competing at the European Youth Olympics last year in Slovakia was a huge moment for me personally and I’ve learnt a lot since then.

“I hope I can now do my best for both Great Britain and Scotland this summer and race at my peak.”

Evan, who was one of the youngest GB swimmers selected last year, has had a phenomenal season, becoming Scottish Junior Champion at the Scottish National & Open Swimming Championships.

He also gained a 400m personal best at the British Swimming Junior Final in April.

Director for Swimming at Strathallan, Elaine Johnston, said: “It’s a great achievement to be selected for such prestigious events at such a young age.

“With last years’ experience behind him and the hard work he’s put in the pool this year, I am sure Evan will get out there and give it his all.”

The European Youth Olympic Festival will take place in Maribor, Slovenia from 23 to 29 July.
