A PROPERTY resembling a Takeshi’s Castle set has appeared on the market for £300,000 – but would-be buyers will get lost in the maze of rooms inside.
The four-bedroom bungalow in Hartlepool, County Durham appeared on property website Rightmove on Saturday.
The detached property’s exterior photos create a sense of confusion from the get-go, with the compact house taking up a small portion of land at the end of an otherwise large driveway.
A myriad of floor-to-ceiling windows leave viewers unsure of where to look as the oddly-shaped property juts in and out in bizarre hexagonal shapes.
The layout does not improve inside, as interior images show a series of bizarrely shaped rooms condensed into the property.
The centrepiece of the house appears to be the large living room which, whilst airy and light, consists of walls everywhere and a strange triangular-shaped concave ceiling.
The strange honeycomb-shaped design means most rooms’ decor is positioned in baffling ways.
One room houses just a washing machine, whilst another narrow, triangular space has a lone fridge wedged between two ill-fitting doors.
Every bedroom has managed to fit either a single or a double bed into it, but with little to no space available on either side of the beds due to the complexities of the layout.
With doors lining seemingly countless walls throughout the home and no floor plan available, the property looks to be nigh impossible to navigate amid a maze of rooms.
The bungalow does however offer house-hunters a large garden space that surrounds the perimeter of the honeycomb, making for tranquil garden views in practically every room.
Due to the house’s maze-like build, the property has gained comparisons to a classic round seen on Japanese game show Takeshi’s Castle, which was broadcast from 1986-1990.
The house bears an eerie resemblance to the Honeycomb Maze seen on the show, which was brought to UK audiences between 2002 and 2004.
The aptly-named Honeycomb Maze saw contestants often charge blindly through the countless hexagonal-shaped rooms and doors whilst evading two ‘Black-Handed, Black-Hearted’ guards.
If the contestant was caught by one of these guards they would be smeared in black paint and be thrown out of the maze.
Estate agents igomove listed the property on Rightmove for £299,995 with the description: “[An] utterly unique four-bedroom home with one-of-a-kind architecture reminiscent of a honeycomb design.
“A rare opportunity to purchase a substantial, quirky property on a huge pot, do not miss the chance to view this one-of-a-kind home, contact the team at Igomove at your first opportunity to secure an internal inspection.”
The property was shared to social media by one user on Sunday with the caption: “Ah yes, I’ve always wanted to live in a giant honeycomb and pretend I’m on Takeshi’s Castle.”
The user’s hilarious comparison has since received more than 250 upvotes and over 100 comments from users left scratching their heads at the bizarre layout.
One user replied: “Disappointed at the lack of floor plan, clearly no one was up to the challenge!”
Another wrote: “The placement of the fridge and washing machine got a little giggle out of me.”
A third said: “I kind of love it, except that they obviously loved that beige tile. And it’s close to the beach though I can’t remember if that is a nice one or not.”
Another commented: “This is absolutely horrific…dare I say it’s possibly the worst house I’ve ever seen on Rightmove.
“Yes, some houses are so run down and ugly that they need to be torn down, but somebody actually built this to be this way.
“They thought this was an idea worthy of being constructed. Just look at those very rectangular double beds, that very square fridge…those poor rugs.
“Think about all the items that require ninety degree corners and how the genius who designed this ‘house’ thumbed his nose at them like a Sims-addict on crack. I’m going to have nightmares tonight.”
