THIS is the moment a group of MK Dons fans blasted their club’s controversial owner in a heated exchange following the side’s relegation to League Two.
Steve Thacker was at Burton Albion vs MK Dons on Sunday with son Jack where he watched the latter’s fate sealed as they drew 0-0, sending them down to England’s fourth division.
Following the game, the 38-year-old watched on in disbelief as two Dons fans furiously confronted owner Peter Winkelman as he attempted to leave the Pirelli Stadium in Burton, Staffordshire.
The video begins with Winkelman barking back at a small group of supporters who had gathered near his vehicle.
He can be heard saying: “We’ve done it, what can we do about it? We’ve done it.”
Fans then shout over to the owner saying: “Get another director of football, he doesn’t know what he’s doing.”
Other fans can be heard exclaiming: “Where were you today? Nobody gives a f**k about the club.” and “Sell the club.”
After some back-and-forth with the upset supporters, Winkelman enters his car and a fan shouts: “It’s a failed football experiment, it’s all done.”
Shouts of “You’ve fed it, I’m sorry, I backed you but you’ve f***ed it” can also be heard.
Two fans then approach the vehicle saying “We’re your only support.”
A member of Winkelman’s entourage says “It’s what happens,” before the fan swiftly replies: “It’s not what happens though, this club will die in League Two.”
The two fans then make their plea by explaining how the club is already struggling to exist in League One.
They exclaim: “This club already struggles for attendance in League One, in League Two it’s going to f***ing die I’m telling you. Another season and we’re done.”
Further angry rants are exchanged before the fans gradually disburse, walking away repeating: “It’s a failed football experiment, it’s a failed football experiment.”
Another fan closes the exchange with the shout: “F***ing w**k.”
Steve shared the video was posted to social media on Sunday with the caption: “MK Dons fans not happy!”
The video has received over 650 likes and hundreds of comments from disgruntled footie fans.
One user wrote: “All fake plastic fans. Who in their right mind would support MK Dons.”
Another wrote: “Couldn’t happen to a better club.”
A third joked: “I get that they’re not happy but don’t see why they have to take it out on Mick Hucknall?”
Another commented: “The chap who kept saying ‘It’s a failed football experiment’ sums it up perfectly for me. Franchise FC are not and never have been a proper legitimate football club.”
A fifth replied: “Whoever you support, however your season has gone – promoted, relegated, mid table, happy, sad, indifferent.
“This will lift the hearts of genuine football fans of legitimate clubs everywhere and I for one salute it.”
Speaking today Steve who is a Burton Albion fan, said: “We were leaving [and] we could see a bit of a commotion in the car park, so we soon realised this must be the owner of MK Dons.
“There were a few MK Dons fans still hanging around but those two were particularly vocal.
“Before the video started I heard the owner make a point that he had invested £1 million into the playing staff and that they had just bought the wrong players and what else did they want them to do.
“One fan did keep saying they had been promised Premier League football and the other said that it was a failed football experiment.
“I have to say I was surprised to see this in the car park at Burton, football owners do get a lot of stick and I can understand the fans’ frustrations as they have just been relegated.
“But, it’s not often you see this kind of interaction between fans and owners.
“I’m a Liverpool fan but Burton are our local team and I’ve been going to their games since they were in non-league in the 90s and Jack’s been going since he was young.”
MK Dons were controversially founded in 2004 after the original Wimbledon FC were reallocated to Milton Keynes.
Since then MK Dons and the later established Wimbledon AFC have developed a fierce rivalry over their claims to history and titles.
Wimbledon FC were liquidated in 2004 and ceased to exist.
The club is best remembered for their team of ‘hard men’ that triumphed over Liverpool to win the 1998 FA Cup.
The side – known as ‘The Crazy Gang’, featured the likes of Vinnie Jones, Dennis Wise and John Fashanu.
