Hilarious video shows football fans priceless reaction to bizarre Wikipedia prank as team is renamed ‘The Fingerlickers’

A HILARIOUS video shows an Irish football fan’s priceless reaction to a bizarre Wikipedia edit prank that saw a team’s nickname changed to ‘The Fingerlickers’.

Daniel Casey was browsing Twitter on Monday when he noticed a conversation about an Irish team – Kerry F.C. – being named ‘The Fingerlickers’.

Confused, the 25-year-old went on Wikipedia to check the legitimacy of the conversation, when he was left in stitches by the website’s edited description of the newly-founded team – based in Tralee, County Kerry.

The video begins with Daniel from Cork, Munster overlooking a greenscreen of the Kerry F.C. Wikipedia page.

He says: “Alright, which one of you f***ing scallywags is going onto the official Kerry F.C. Wikipedia and changing their nickname to ‘The Fingerlickers’?

The Irishman then reads the hilarious on-screen description ‘explaining’ the nickname: “The Fingerlickers nickname originates from a popular chant used by Kerry F.C. supporters during matches.

“The chant goes: ‘Fingerlicking good, we’re fingerlicking good, KFC…we’re fingerlicking good’ and is a play on the slogan by the fast-food chain KFC leading to Kerry F.C. fans referring to their team as ‘The Fingerlickers’ due to their initials being the same as KFC.

“Although the nickname is not official, it has gained popularity among fans and is often used on social media and in local media coverage of the team.

“There you go, I personally thought the Kerry cousin-touchers would’ve had a much better ring to it.”

Daniel recorded a follow-up video yesterday as he explored the origins of the Fingerlickers in more detail.

He says: “Okay, so this is part two of the Kerry F.C. Fingerlicking saga.

“So unfortunately since my TikTok video yesterday, the Fingerlickers nickname was officially taken down from the Kerry F.C. Wikipedia.

“But, I’ve found the Fingerlickers KFC fan blog on WordPress – ‘The heartbeat of the Fingerlickin’ good Kerry F.C.: Fingerlickers Chronicles.”

The video then shows the famous KFC logo featuring the face of founder Colonel Sanders – except the famous red and white colours have now been changed to bright green and white.

Replicating the colours of Kerry F.C., Colonel Sanders’ string tie has also been changed to green to emulate a club scarf, whilst the club badge sits on either side of the KFC letters.

Below this also reads: “We’re fingerlicking good, we’re fingerlicking good. KFC, we’re fingerlicking good.”

Daniel continues “They have a lovely little badge here – the Colonel – as well as a Kerry F.C. scarf and KFC Finger Lickin’ Good with two Kerry F.C. badges on either side.”

Daniel reads this chant out loud before saying: “But it doesn’t end there! There’s full-on articles for all the matches.”

He then showcases these personal post-match reports that read: ‘Fingerlickers come up short in Ferrycarrig Park’, ‘Fingerlicking Bad’, ‘Munster derby ends in hard-fought draw for the Fingerlickers against Treaty United’ and simply ‘We’re fingerlickin’ good.’

Daniel then reads into the match reports, saying: “And each f***ing heading has a full-on article.

“Hello fellow Fingerlickers, what an incredible experience we’ve just witnessed.

“When the chant ‘We’re fingerlicking good!’ echoed in the Tralee night sky, I knew that I had to share this journey with fellow Kerry F.C. enthusiasts and so the Fingerlickers blog was born.

“But, the Fingerlickers should be proud of their performance and take that fighting spirit into next week’s game against Longford Town…come on you Fingerlickers we’ll get that first win soon enough.”

Daniel gets to the end of the fan blog before simply quipping: “Beautiful.”

In his first video published yesterday on Monday titled: “What should the Kerry F.C. team be called?”

The video has received over 9,200 likes and dozens of comments from users left in stitches by what many view as a great idea.

One user wrote: “They should run with it.”

Another said: “They put great thought into that to be fair.”

A third commented: “As a Kerry F.C. fan, I think that this is a great idea.”

Another added: “The International Kerry Equestrian Association (IKEA) are named ‘The Flatpackers.”

A fifth replied: “This is the best example of Irish humour.”

Speaking today content creator Daniel said: “I first saw somebody talk about it on Twitter, and I remember thinking Jesus, I better have a look at that.

“Sure enough, it was real, the nickname was up as the Fingerlickers and there was a full story about it and everything and since the TikTok it’s been changed unfortunately.

“There’s a blog about the Fingerlickers with hilarious entries.

“I thought that it was absolutely hilarious, fairs to the guy who did it, there’s just so much creativity there and I think KFC should get on-board.

“It’s a great sponsorship opportunity – they could do some serious marketing with it.”

Kerry F.C. who were established last year, currently find themselves at the bottom of Ireland’s SSE Airtricity First Division with just one point from their opening six league games.
