A SCOTS Victorian villa complete with a “secret room” accessed through a cupboard is coming up for auction – but house-hunters have been left divided.
The hulking eight-bedroom home in Dennistoun, Glasgow is being sent to auction on Wednesday and boasts two kitchens, two shower rooms and three reception rooms.
However, video of the property from Auction House Scotland has left some social media users creeped out by its “sinister vibe”.
Footage begins with an exterior view of the property as the camera pans over the grand-looking sandy brick external wall, coming to focus on the two bay windows overlooking the property’s garden.
The video’s on-screen caption reads: “Going to auction 23/03. This huge Victorian villa in Glasgow has an incredible secret room. Dennistoun (5 min walk from Duke Street and Alexandra Parade)”.
The exterior does appear to need some work as swathes of dead ivy cover the house’s wall whilst countless weeds poke through the paving slabs outside.
The front door is then swung open by a man in a black suit, giving the home an air of grace as the camera person is welcomed into the property.
Behind the man, there is a towering reception room propped by large white pillars with detailed cornice work, heavily contrasting with the red floral wallpaper surrounding the room.
A carpeted grand staircase can also be seen at the far end of the room, leading up to a second floor with a jaw-droppingly high ceiling.
The camera then cuts again to the man in the suit, who beckons the viewer to a white cupboard door with the number seven on it, as the caption reads: “There’s something in this cupboard…”
As the camera person follows, coat hangers can be seen dangling from the left as the man continues on through an open door frame.
The cupboard’s coat rack leading to the secret room on the other side is reminiscent of Narnia – which is famously accessed by pushing through a thick lining of coats in an otherwise regular wardrobe.
As the camera pushes through, it reveals what appears to be a studio flat – with a sitting area, a ‘bedroom’ and what looks to be a small kitchen area at the far side.
Within the secret bedroom is a carpeted floor, a double bed and a large oak wood wardrobe – whilst two large windows are covered up, allowing little light in.
Despite almost seeming like a separate flat to the rest of the property, the entire eight-bedroom house is indeed on offer – for a guided price of £432,000.
Auction Houses Scotland took to social media to share the virtual tour of the property, writing: “Going to #Auction 23/03”.
The video has attracted over 1,000 likes and more than 100 comments from users who sounded off varying opinions in the comments,
One person wrote: “Five minutes down the road from me, If I had the money I’d buy that in a heartbeat – that’s my kind of house, so much potential.”
Another said: “I would snatch this up in a heartbeat if only I had a healthier bank account.”
A third pointed out: “I’d imagined that for it to be a secret room there’d be no evidence of it from the outside (as well as inside). The big windows give the game away.”
However, many also claimed to feel a negative energy surrounding the property, with one person writing: “It’s got a sinister vibe to it.”
While another wrote: “Great potential but there’s an eerie, weird, bad vibe – definitely bad things happened there.”
Another added: “You need to keep it on a draft with all doors and windows open for years to [get] rid of that awful energy.”
