THIS is the moment a speeding driver hurtles through a red light at a pedestrian crossing, just seconds after a car had pulled out of the way.
Anthony Atkin captured the motorist’s dangerous antics on Saturday in Tameside, Greater Manchester.
The 56-year-old’s dashcam footage shows what appears to be a grey Mercedes-Benz racing past Anthony at well over 60mph, plowing through a blatant red light and missing a turning car by seconds.
The video shows Uber driver Anthony gradually coming to a stop at a set of traffic lights which had just turned red.
Whilst there are no pedestrians crossing in that moment, a black car can be seen turning out from the junction on the left, and crossing Anthony’s lane to join the traffic heading the other way.
Then, merely three seconds after the car turns off the lane, loud revving can be heard as the grey car comes hurtling past Anthony’s right hand side.
The car blatantly ignores the lights, which have been red for 13 seconds at that point, and races right through and up the hill in front of it.
It briefly brakes to slow down for a turn at the peak of the hill, but then continues accelerating away and out of shot.
The lights remain red for another 12 seconds after the car speeds through them, and the clip ends as Anthony turns left into Tesco.
Anthony, from Oldham, shared the unbelievable footage online yesterday morning, receiving dozens of reactions and comments from shocked users.
He added in the comments: “Three seconds earlier and a different outcome.”
One user said: “I was waiting for the police car.”
Another replied: “Holy f***!”
A third user wrote: “K***head.”
Another simply said: “Organ donor.”
One user joked however, saying: “Hate people like this, if he was one minute later I would have got my pizza free, that’s why I ordered it from so far away.”
Speaking today, Anthony said: “I’m an Uber driver, and I had a pick-up at Tesco, which is to my left [in the video].
“There’s a lot of bad drivers about at this time of day, and I capture a lot on the dashcam but this one in particular is one of the worst I’ve seen so far.
“I suppose that I cover a lot of ground in and around Tameside, I do come across a lot of bad drivers – there’s a lot of road accidents in the North West.
“As you can see in that video, I wasn’t rattled much by it and just carried on with my daily duties.”
It is an offence in the UK for any vehicle to pass the white line at a set of traffic lights, unless guided to do otherwise by a police officer.
If drivers are caught passing a red light without authorisation, they can be fined up to £100 with an extra three points added onto their license for four years.
