Scots mum left in stitches by son’s reaction to popular energy drink Prime

A SCOTS MUM was left in stitches after her son’s dramatic reaction to finally trying a popular energy drink.

Mandy Kennedy had spent four weeks searching for popular energy drink Prime and had managed to source a bottle for her son Riley.

However, when Christmas Day came and Riley took his first sip of a bottle he was shocked to discover that the drink was revolting.

The 36-year old support worker from Newmains, South Lanarkshire searched for the electrolyte-infused drink to gift eight-year old Riley for Christmas.

Mandy was able to beat the crazy 6am queues for the drink at her local ASDA and paid £10 for her four bottles of Prime– which she claims can be sold for as much as £10-15 individually.

Although Mandy had managed to grab four bottles she wanted to try and get a different flavour for Riley and arranged a swap with another parent.

Arranging to meet up with another parent whose child was Prime obsessed, she swapped a red bottle for a green one – finally completing her Prime quest.

His mum and family were left in stitches as the young footballer pulled a disgusted face.

A hilarious image shows Riley dressed in his Christmas hoodie, both hands holding tight onto a red white and blue bottle.

His priceless expression shows him looking away in disgust with his eyes scrunched and his mouth grimacing at the taste of the flavoured water.

Mandy shared the hilarious moment online on Sunday, writing: “ Sums up Christmas. Weeks of stress to get them all and this was his face when he tasted it.

“Merry Christmas, everyone. Edit, to say we were well aware they tasted like s**t and wouldn’t drink them [sic] but he wants the bottles.

“Never paid more than £2.50 a bottle, it’s Xmas Day, give yourselves a day off and cheer up.”

The viral post amused many as it garnered thousands of likes and hundreds of comments.

One person said: “Haha! Same here, [my child] liked the blue one but the ice pop one took all day to drink yesterday, so clearly wasn’t very nice.”

Another wrote: “I’m so glad none of my kids asked for this.”

A third commented: “Yeah, it’s rotten but the kids won’t ever admit to it. ‘Least you got it, Mam goals.”

A fourth joked: “At least you can sell the rest on for more than you paid.”

Speaking today, Mandy said: “I’m a support worker, so generally up very early. I pass Asda in the morning and always got there for it opening at six o’clock – there were always crazy queues.

“It took around four weeks to secure four bottles. My son is nine in January and a very keen footballer, he wanted the bottles to take to training more than what was inside them.

“It you were not in Asda by 6.15am, you didn’t get it – I refused to pay the £10-£15 a bottle as I knew he would only be interested in the bottle.

“We stuck to our guns and didn’t pay more than £2.50 for a bottle.

“There were loads of shops around us who were selling for that price but I couldn’t justify it, knowing he would pour the juice down the sink.

“The only extreme I went to was meeting a stranger at the Showcase cinema to swap a bottle – he needed red and I needed green, so we arranged to meet and swap them the night before Christmas Eve.

“The wee one’s dad told me I was off my head but you do what you can.

“He is delighted he has them and thinks Santa must know KSI to have been able to get four bottles.

“His wee face was so funny when he tasted them and each one seemed to get worse and worse, that’s why I pulled the camera out.

“He literally has had one sip out of each bottle. As you could see by his face in the picture he wasn’t impressed at all by the taste – he said it was vile, started jumping about trying to shake it off his tongue.

“I couldn’t move for laughing, his dad was the same.

“His older brother, Jamie, had a taste and just spat it back out.

“Riley is over the moon to have the bottles which will end up filled with blackcurrant juice.

“It is mad how much these drinks are being sold for, there is a shop across the road selling them for £18 each.”

Prime is a popular sports drink, first produced in January this year by celebrity and boxer Logan Paul, and rapper KSI.

The drinks have since become a huge trend with younger children, with parents purchasing the electrolyte drinks for extortionate prices as high as £60.
