AN AMERICAN couple who met through their love of Scotland have travelled to the country of their fascinations to get married.
Lisa Weber and Jeff Perry were both members of a Scottish-focused Facebook page when they decided to connect online.
The pair lived almost five hours apart in the USA but quickly realised how well-suited they were, moving in together in 2018 and setting up home in Virginia, USA.
Deciding to pay a touching tribute to the country behind their relationship, Jeff, 63, and 57-year-old Lisa flew over to Scotland earlier this month to get married.
Piano teacher Lisa first met her now-husband after noticing his Scotland-related posts on social media, leading to her adding him as a friend and sparking up conversations.
As the years went by, Lisa says it became clear that they were “meant for one another”.
After their wedding, the couple knew they wanted to honeymoon in the country that brought them together in the first place.
The couple tied the knot at The Torridon in Annat by Achnasheen, Wester Ross, before setting off on their travels around Scotland – despite contending with Lisa’s broken arm.
Lisa took to social media to write about their nuptials on Sunday writing: “In 2015, I sent a friend request to Jeff Perry, someone I noticed on this page.
“He accepted and started writing to me.
“After about a year of writing, we decided to meet in person.
“We lived about four and a half hours apart in the USA.
“Fast forward to 2018 when I moved in with him and on December 3rd 2022, we got married in Scotland.
“Here are a few photos from our wedding day and honeymoon in Scotland.”
Lisa’s post has been liked over 8,000 times with more than 500 comments from users who rushed to congratulate the newlyweds on their heartwarming story.
Lesley Moir said: “What a love story. Congratulations and hope you enjoyed Scotland.”
Kathy Allen said: “Congratulations, what a beautiful love story.”
Andrea Robb Polak said: “Wonderful to read about such a love story, wishing you both a lifetime of togetherness, good health and happy travels. Congratulations.”
Donna Copland said: “Congratulations so nice to hear of such romantic things that happen to people.”
Margaret Kane said: “Congratulations to you both, have a lovely first Christmas as Mr and Mrs.”
Speaking today, Lisa said: “I noticed Jeff because he uses all capital letters and many exclamation marks when he gets excited about something, that is what brought my attention to him initially.
“We clicked right from the start, we shared so many things in common and as the years wore on it was made more apparent that we were meant for one another.
“The honeymoon had its ups and downs, unfortunately I broke my arm and required surgery just two weeks before the wedding weekend.
“This meant that the honeymoon was challenging in that we had too many bags and not enough hands/ arms to move everything around but we did our best.
“We’re not planning much for Christmas this year as my broken arm has taken a toll on us both so we plan on laying low after our travelling.”
Many people choose to elope in Scotland as it is the only country in the United Kingdom where you can legally get married anywhere as long as a registered celebrant is present.
