Hilarious video shows foul-mouthed gran on phone to prankster “librarian” pretending to chase up book fine

A HILARIOUS video shows the moment a foul-mouthed gran loses her rag on the phone while being pranked into believing she owes £2,500 in library fines.

Mary Gray was filmed getting into a heated exchange with a man on the phone called John who she believed was from her local library in Liverpool.

However, the 75-year-old was completely unaware she was being stitched up by her granddaughter’s boyfriend who was at the end of the other line and pretending to be the librarian.

Video captured by Mary’s granddaughter Tinisha Osu shows the retired hairdresser answering the call from Carl Graham and being told she owes money for a book that she borrowed in 1996.

A bemused Mary is then heard saying: “From the library? What library?

“You’re no good to me because I’ve got cataracts in the eyeballs and I can’t see. You’re having me on -the man said I took a book in 1996.

“Listen, I wasn’t in the country, I was in Nigeria, Africa in those days.

“No, you need to go and sit on the toilet and play with your f****g c**k because there’s no way I’m paying you.

“I’ve had enough people doing me in for my money. F*k off right now, you ain’t getting a penny from me, you b****d!

“A book? What kind of book?

“That could be my mother, my sisters or my brothers. They were all conning f*****g people, not me, Love.

“You’ve got the sh***y end of the stick there. So, what’s your name anyway and I’ll phone you back?

“I’ll give you so much harrassment you won’t even want to know me. Are you there, John?

“Do you want me to call the Babylon right now? [To her granddaughter] He’s f*****g telling me I’ve got to pay £150 a week and he thinks he’s doing me a favour – I don’t know what book, I’ve never had a book.

“What’s the book called? Well, that’s funny, you’ve got my phone on record and can ask me for £150 a week but you ain’t got the name of the book.

“Listen, I don’t want a drink but you’re making me get to the off-license to get four f*****g bottles of plonk and I don’t want to drink, so stop it.

“You’re pressuring me for money that I haven’t got. I’ve got a car here, do you want to come and f*****g give me four tyres?

“No, I wouldn’t phone me back a few hours later because if you come to the house and knock on the door, I’ll have my pepper ready, bye and f**k off.”

Mary then grumbles to Tinisha, saying: “It’s a scam, a scammer. He’s asking me for two and a half grand that I don’t know about.

“From the library, the cheeky b*****d. I told him to go and play with himself.

“I want him to come to the house because I can get my pepper out then.”

Marketing executive Tinisha, 23, posted the clip on TikTok on Saturday, writing: “My boyfriend went upstairs to call my nan and tell her she has a library fine worth £2,500.”

The clip has attracted over 1.2million views and over 98,000 likes from amused viewers.

Thousands of social media users left comments about the clip after taking a shining to Mary.

Michelle Kettle said: “I absolutely love her. I’m from Liverpool and love scouse nans they tell it how it is.”

Craig Scott said: “I can’t breathe!”

Joanne Smith said: “He should have said the Kamasutra!”

And Suzzane Hillan said: “Ha! ha! ha! ha! This is brilliant. How did he not laugh? I’d be howling!”

Speaking today, Tinisha said: “I prank my nan a lot.

“I moved to Newcastle in 2017 for university but then I continued living here after I graduated. My entire family is back in Liverpool so every time I go back and visit, I have to plan at least one prank to play on her.

“My boyfriend, Carl, originally came up with the idea after we decided we were going to see her.

“Then I added some details like the ‘1996’ and the price of the fine, so it was a joint effort.

“I then gave him her number and he went upstairs in her house to phone her – I don’t know how she didn’t know it was him but she just doesn’t really pick up on things like that.

“She’s very gullible and will believe anything you tell her- which is something I inherited from her. So we played the prank, which I knew would result in a really funny response.

“She hates any form of scammers and is always complaining about people phoning her, trying to get more money out of her.

“For example, her internet provider called her recently offering her upgrades for more money and she definitely wasn’t happy. And it worked.

“She reacted just the way we thought she would and it was hilarious. It’s classic Liverpool humour- you’ll see a lot of comments saying that too.

“She’s used to us though, so she quickly laughed it off and we were just thankful that she didn’t call the police!”

Tinisha added: “Everyone loves my nan and so when I post her, it normally does well, but I never expected it to do this well.”
