Professor Cantrell said, “I’m delighted to be joining Cancer Research UK’s Council of Trustees.

“Having worked with the charity in different capacities over the years, I’ve seen first-hand the significance and impact of its work.

“It is a privilege to be joining such a knowledgeable group of people.

“I look forward to working with them and playing my part in helping to achieve the charity’s long-term vision to bring about a world where everybody can lead longer, better lives, free from the fear of cancer.”

Professor Gerard Evan, of King’s College, London, was also announced a trustee of the charity today.

Sir Leszek Borysiewicz, Chair of Cancer Research UK, said: “It is great to welcome Doreen and Gerard to our Council of Trustees and I look forward to working with them.

“Both have achieved so much over the course of their illustrious careers and their extensive expertise will be crucial in helping shape the charity’s strategic direction over the coming years.”
