REVIEW – Chloe Petts – Transience

RATING : 5/5

CHLOE Petts has brought her show, Transience, to Edinburgh for her Fringe debut, and it certainly doesn’t disappoint.

Chloe gives her more experienced comedy friends a real challenge when it comes to beating her comfortable, convincing and confident show at the upstairs of the Pleasance Courtyard.

Chloe explores important and serious conversations such as dealing with misgendering and gender identity – both of which were topics explored within the show through her own experiences.

Chloe begins by explaining her experience as a teenager and her performances of femininity through a photo of her younger self and moving on to explain how she evolved to embrace “lad culture”.

In Chloe’s words, she describes herself as having “big dick energy”whilst also littering references to male toilets throughout the set.

It is notably impressive how flawlessly Chloe was able to talk about these topics whilst still maintaining an unmistakable air of humour alongside.

For being early in her career, Chloe has shown how much of a storyteller she is and how well she can control a show, all the while oozing with confidence.

Allowing participants to get involved in the show, Chloe asked questions, looked for opinions and hilariously mocked her audience which went down a treat within the crowd.

I’d stress to add that not all participation was planned.

One key moment within the show was completely unexpected, with one audience member making a sound that caught Chloe off guard and led her to a fit of laughter.

Moments like these within the show are what made it as captivating as it was, Chloe was real, and friendly and made it a space welcome for all.

Chloe is a brilliant comedian, and she makes it seem effortless by keeping control of both her set and the audience. A truly talented and welcoming comic.

You can catch Chloe’s show from the 3rd to the 28th of August Upstairs at the Pleasance Courtyard at 6pm.
