FLYLIKEANEAGLE won the opening 100% Racing TV Back To Racing Apprentice Handicap at Musselburgh on Tuesday for Scotland’s leading jumps trainer Lucinda Russell.
Ridden by William Pyle, the 100-30 second favourite saw off Ayr Empress by a length, and Russell’s partner Peter Scudamore said: “Derek Fox and Stephen Kelly do most of the training with him and they’ve done well with him since he come over from Ireland.”
Jim Goldie and Paul Mulrennan teamed up for a double with Bobby Shaftoe and Primo’s Comet who won the Thank You Lizzie Classified Stakes and Bet at racingtv.com Handicap respectively.
Goldie said: “Bobby Shaftoe can be a bit of a handful but my son George did a great job with him in the paddock, and Paul rode him tight to the rail the whole way round.
“Primo’s Comet is always ridden for luck and he came with his usual late run.”
There were two other Scottish winners at the Musselburgh outing in the shape of Ramon Di Loria and Will He Dance for Ewan Whillans and Keith Dalgleish respectively.
The next fixture at Musselburgh is the course’s famed Friday Night at the Races, pencilled in for July 29th, with the first race at 6:10pm.
