DUNDEE United footballer Tony Watt has named the best person he has ever played against as Zenit St Petersburg’s Danny – overlooking Lionel Messi.
The Scots striker named the attacking midfielder as the best player he has come across while answering questions for fans on TikTok on Sunday.
Watt, 28, scored against Messi’s Barcelona in one of Celtic’s most iconic European nights in 2012.
However, Watt said he was “going outside the box” and said Danny was the best footballer he played against, even branding him “the Portuguese Messi”.
The former Motherwell striker said: “People go mad at me for not saying Barcelona players but remember I didn’t start that game.
“So I’m going to go outside the box and say the lad Danny from Zenit.
“I stood on the pitch and watched him rip it up for 90 minutes.
“It was incredible.”
The Scotland international player captioned his answer as: “At least I said the Portuguese Messi.”
Watt faced off against Danny while at Standard Liege in a UEFA Champions League play-off round tie.
The Russians soundly beat the Belgian side 3-0 to progress into the group stages under the guidance of Portuguese boss Andre Villas-Boas.
Watt will have another crack at Europe next season as part of Dundee United’s attempt to progress into the UEFA Europa Conference League.
