Key Things To Help You Understand The Slovakian Vignette

The vignette obligation in Slovakia applies to most motorways and expressways. The motorway operating company manages the Slovakian vignette. Remember that two-track motor vehicles that have or don’t have trailers, as well as single-track motor vehicles, require to have the Slovakian vignette. The authorized maximum weight of motor vehicles that need to have a vignette should not exceed 3.5 tonnes. This article discusses the key things to help you understand the Slovakian vignette.

Vignette in Slovakia

It is crucial to know the validity of the Slovakian vignette. A one-month vignette for vehicles that are in categories 2A and 2B tends to be valid the same day that you purchased it. The same applies to the six months vignette for motorcycles. It’s worth noting that the vehicle category in Slovenia usually depends on the vehicle’s height measures on the first axle as well as the vehicle’s number of axles.

You need to know that a Slovakian vignette needs to be affixed to your vehicle, and it’s a good idea to do it immediately on receipt. You can affix a valid undamaged vignette in an area that is not tinted. This should be on your windscreen interior’s left-hand side. This happens to be the only acceptable proof that you have paid the toll.

The validity can depend on the time shown on your toll ticket. You can find day, month, or even year vignettes. If you fail to affix a vignette or drive your vignette, you can receive a cash fine.

Type of vehicles that must have a vignette

You should note that it’s compulsory for all motor vehicles to have a vignette, especially those that have a maximum gross weight of up to three and a half tonnes. This includes motorcycles, motor-homes, and cars. But vehicles that have a maximum gross weight of above three and a half tonnes, such as heavy motor-homes, buses, and lorries need to pay a toll fee that depends on the distance you travel.

It’s worth mentioning that a trailer that your motor vehicle tows and has a maximum gross weight of at least three and a half tonnes doesn’t require an extra vignette. This means it’s enough to have just a single valid and properly affixed vignette on the vehicle pulling your trailer or caravan.

When it comes to a single-track vehicle, you need to stick the vignette where it can be easily visible. This should be on a flat area that can be hard to remove the vignette. You also need to be careful to make sure the area is clean. Therefore, you should remove wax residue, oil, dust, and many more before you decide to stick it on the vignette.

You can replace a vignette in some situations. These include when you replace your damaged windscreen, if you replace a part of your motorcycle, or if your vehicle is de-registered. But you need to submit a written application to have a replacement vignette.
