MOTHERWELL FC’s CEO has joked about the state of their old 2008 pitch while sharing images of Fir Park’s new turf development.
Alan Burrows began tweeting about the pitch development on Wednesday, hours before Motherwell’s last home match of the season.
The forward-thinking CEO has been updating fans since then on the redevelopment and poked fun at the state of their old pitch.
In 2010 the club were fined £50,000 by the Scottish Premier League over the state of their pitch in the second half of the previous season.
Sharing a snap of the area completely dug up this morning, the 39-year-old said: “2008 called, it wants its pitch back.”
Burrows had previously shared images of their grounds looking almost pristine, ahead of their crucial game against Hearts on Wednesday.
The next day he posted a snap of three diggers on the pitch that had already begun lifting the existing turf, writing: “No messing about.”
Another image showing a huge pile of rubble was captioned: “Alexa, why were we struggling to drain the pitch at Fir Park?”
The posts have received over 1,000 likes and collected dozens of comments from football fans.
One said: “Always hurts to see this happening to a pitch, even though it’s for the better.”
Another wrote: “Looks like Amoruso has been back for one of his dodgy slide tackles.”
A third added: “Still in better condition than Firhill though.”
A fourth commented: “I’m sure the pitch looked like that for a match in the 1970’s & 80’s.”
While another person joked: “I wonder if Paul (groundskeeper) is lying down in a darkened room somewhere.
“The amount of blood, sweat and tears he’s put into that turf.”
Although the pitch was in good condition, Motherwell FC announced that the pitch was being upgraded to a hybrid turf.
The pitch type, which has already been introduced by Celtic, Rangers and Hearts is a blend of 95% natural grass, which is reinforced by synthetic stitched fibres.
The redevelopment will also allow the club to install an improved drainage system, irrigation system and new undersoil heating.
