ADORABLE footage shows a fire search and rescue dog checking a storm-damaged home for casualties while wearing protective safety boots.
Springer spaniel Louie was filmed yesterday working hard as he searched for people in the remains of a home in Chorley, Lancashire, that had been destroyed.
Louie, who joined Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service as the UK’s first fire cadaver in 2020, was filmed running across bricks and rubble, sniffing around for signs of life.
The three-year-old pooch was filmed running across a huge pile of bricks that had fallen from the property before running up the stairs of the exposed building.
At the top of the landing he can be heard sniffing but after not locating anyone he is shown wagging his tail as he runs back down the stairs wearing his mini safety boots.
Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service shared the video on social media yesterday, writing: “A small snippet of search dog Louie assisting crews today in Chorley.
“Louie was given the task of locating or clearing the building of any missing people.
“The information Louie provides incident commanders is pertinent to their decision making process.”
The video has been viewed over 8,000 times and received dozens of messages from viewers who were in awe by Louie.
Steph Cavanagh said: “Oh my god, he’s so brave.
“Clever lad Louie.
“Sending cuddles.”
Manni Lou Moore said: “We love Louie and his little boots.
“Such a clever boy.”
Debs Carnell said: “How fantastic.
“Thanks for showing us what these amazing dogs can do.”
Yvonne Gibson added: “Clever Louie, well done.
“Top marks.”
Shelly Jay said: “Loving his safety boots.”
Louie gained his operational licence to work in the fire service as a cadaver dog in October 2020.
Before this the fire team would need to rely on cadaver searches from other emergency service teams, such as the police.
