Driftwood bar in Glasgow has launched a new Heinz menu featuring various canned meals and charging up to £3 each per serving.
Popular tinned soups, such as “Cream of Tomato” and “Lentil and Bacon”, are advertised on the bar’s menu at £2.50 – almost £1.50 more than in supermarkets.
And 400g canned Heinz “Beef Ravioli” and “Macaroni Cheese” have been bumped up to £3 each – although are served with a side of “Krisprolls”.
The price for Heinz Spaghetti Hoops has also been added to the menu for £3 – despite costing just 85p in the shops.
Social media users have been left in disbelief over the bizarre new menu additions and couldn’t get over the eye-watering prices.
Driftwood bar posted an image of the new menu yesterday on Instagram, writing: “The Great Debate today is…
“Heinz Macaroni Cheese or Heinz Beef Ravioli.
“Both served with Garlic Bread – or add on some chips.
“(Beef Ravioli is 1 of your 5 a Day if you’re healthy for January).”
Drury Street Bar & Kitchen yesterday tweeted a screenshot of the post, writing: “I’m not one to badmouth other bars but that is f***ing howling.
“Imagine ordering tinned ravioli.”
Twitter user @Pijinnn_ said: “This s**t is for the real skint days before payday not an actual pub menu.
@wee_frumpy said: “Are they really charging £2.50 for a tin of Heinz?”
@dave5387 said: “Don’t know what’s worse here, the concept or the markup?”
@conroysters said: “I’d honestly rather someone spewed directly in my mouth after paying double that.”
A spokesman for Driftwood today declined to comment on the backlash.
