New Covid-19 test approved for use in UK

A new Covid-19 test kit has been approved for use in UK hospitals.

The test kit developed by R-Biopharm is able to detect the Omicron variant of Covid-19, Flu and other coronavirus variants.

Omicron is the latest discovered variant of Covid-19 in the UK and is expected to cause a surge in cases.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has said vaccines “may be less effective” against the new variant.

The new test is intended for professional use in hospitals and laboratories, helping health professionals discern between different Covid varients.

Jason Baggaley, Sales Manager of R-Biopharm for Great Britain, commented: “We are proud that our Flu & SARS-CoV-2 test was approved and added to the CTDA register and our customers will continue to be able to distinguish between the flu and an infection with the Coronavirus.”

R-Biopharm is an international specialist in clinical diagnostics headquartered in Darmstadt Germany, it has a significant operation in Glasgow and will now work to resume the sale of the product in the UK.

Jenny Harris head of the UK Health Security Agency, which approved the new test, recently warned that omicron is “the most significant threat since the pandemic began.”

As of December 14th, there are 5346 confirmed omicron cases in the UK 5006 of these in England.
