Driver caught with near bald tyres in van with upright trees in the back

A DOPEY driver was caught with almost completely bald tyres after their van with two 15ft trees upright in the back caught the attention of police.

Officers from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) noticed the van travelling down the M4 yesterday.

The motorway was soaking wet at the time the driver was travelling with the bizarre cargo in the back of the overloaded van.

The driver was given a fixed penalty fine and three points on their licence.

Images show the van parked up with two large trees perched up in the back compartment, towering above the van cabin below.

A close up of the vans tyres show the thread worn down, leaving them with barely any grip.

The images have circulated online gaining hundreds of likes and comments from social media users.

@carolhorn69 said: “Bloody hell. I’ve seen more hair on a badger’s backside, book them and let them watch their vehicle being crushed.”

@GEORGEPRINZ5 said: “Very thick, as thick as a tree. Presume he wanted to show a battery driven vehicle what ‘green driving’ is, lovely.”

@jjcymru1 said: “He must be bark-ing mad driving that without expecting a stop.”

@TimSlade14 joked: “That is a tree-mendous stop. Glad to see you getting to the root of the problem.”

@GrumpyBiker1969 added: “Do my eyes deceive me? How thick are some people.”

DVSA Enforcement shared a record of the bust to Twitter yesterday, writing: “‘Wood’ you believe it!

“Our officer noticed this van em‘bark’ing on a voyage along the soaking wet #M4 corridor.

“‘Planting’ their foot on the accelerator, they intercepted it before it could ‘leaf’ the motorway!

“Overloaded and an illegal tyre. Prohibited, FPN and three points.”
