Liam McFarlane and Becky Parnell decided to dress their one-year-old daughter Robyn as a pumpkin for Halloween this year.
The youngster wore the same costume last year but after realising it still fits, her parents decided it would be perfect for this year’s Halloween parties.
But after returning back from one of the events at the weekend, Becky noticed on the label that the outfit itself was actually a dog costume.
The B&M label inside read: “Howl-pet-ween. Intended for pet use only.
“We recommend that this product is kept away from children, choking hazard.”
Liam, from Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, couldn’t stop laughing after realising he had dressed his daughter up in the dog costume on numerous occasions.
He posted about the blunder on Sunday and shared images of Robyn looking adorable in the dog costume.
The 34-year-old wrote: “My girlfriend bought this ‘kids’ pumpkin costume off a Facebook sale group for a few quid last year.
“My daughter has worn it around five times for various Halloween parties.
“After a party last night we took it off to wash it and noticed the tag says it is a small dog’s costume.
“So, anyone struggling to get their little kids a costume could potentially check your pet stores!”
Images show Robyn smiling away in the orange sequin outfit which has green felt leaves around the collar.
The tot’s arms and legs are shown sticking out from the bright costume which also features eyes and a mouth stitched onto the front.
Liam’s post has attracted over 11,000 likes and more than 500 comments from social media users.
One member of the Facebook group wrote: “Brilliant! She looks so cute.”
Another said: “Love it! She looks fab, it’s lovely with all the sequins on! You would never know either.”
A third social media user commented: “I bought a costume that was for a small child, but wanted it for my dog.”
And another added: “We did the same a few years ago – saw it reduced so got it and he wore it all the time. Still going strong now three years later in the costume box haha.”
One group member even shared a photo of their dog in the exact same costume, writing: “She looks so cute! And here it is being modelled by our dog…”
Speaking today, Liam said: “Last year, my daughters nursery was having a Halloween party and we began looking for a costume.
“After checking a few stores and not finding anything that we liked, my girlfriend decided to check Facebook and found this sparkly pumpkin costume that she liked.
“It was listed for £3, so a bargain.
“It was described as a kids pumpkin costume, aged 1-2, that was ‘used – like new’.
“It still fit her this year so we decided to get a bit more use out of it.
“After a party on Sunday, Becky decided to list it back on Facebook as it wasn’t going to be of any use to us again, so may as well let some other little ones have it.
“But, when checking the label for the exact size, Becky noticed that it was a small dog’s costume.
“I couldn’t stop laughing when I realised.
“But, you can’t even tell – people at the party said she was a cute little pumpkin, and I’ve had hundreds of comments saying that she looks very cute in it!”
