The Old Church in Kilmany near Cupar, Fife, has caught the attention of house-browsers after it was labelled as a “superb development opportunity”.
Tucked away within some dark foliage and trees, the unique property is set amongst idyllic rolling hills.
However, the talking point has been that it is surrounded by headstones and graves directly outside – some of which date back to the 18th century.
The A listed building, described as being located in a “quiet setting”, even has a couple of headstones leaning against the outside walls of the church.
Inside the property features the original church layout but has been granted Change of Use to convert the property into an open plan three bedroom home.
Rows of pews face the pulpit in the centre of the main hall which sits underneath an overlooking balcony.
Estate agents Rettie & Co said: “A superb development opportunity in a picturesque setting on the edge of a popular Fife village.
“The Old Church sits very quietly on the southern edge of the charming village of Kilmany, a short distance to the north of the popular town of Cupar in North East Fife.
“The A-listed old parish church of Kilmany, which was rebuilt in 1768, is thought to have been dedicated to St Adrian and formerly belonged to St Salvator’s College, St Andrews.
“The church is a simple rectangle, with a west porch and bellcote.
“It is surrounded by a graveyard with stones the earliest of which date from the late 18th century, and its use continued into the late 20th century.
“Listed Building Consent and Change of Use have been obtained to convert the property into a unique, open plan three bedroom home.”
Images of the church were shared on Reddit on Saturday, captioned: “Detached ‘house’ for sale in Fife – Can’t afford a detached house in Edinburgh? Check this out.”
