Nevis Range Mountain Experience announce £4m construction project

THE Nevis Range Mountain Experience have announced a new £4m project which will see the construction of a 22-bedroom hotel and 24 berth bunkhouse.

Beginning construction today, the project is expected to take 12 months to build and will also see the addition of a bar and restaurant and bike shop to the Lochaber hotspot.

The project, supported by The Highlands and Islands Enterprise, is set to open in late November next year and will create around 50 jobs.

Amongst other facilities the new construction will oversee the creation of a new bike shop, children’s activity center, childcare facilities, and a covered courtyard event space.

Managing Director of Nevis Range, Chris O’Brien, said: “The hotel and bunkhouse are being developed as a direct response to the wishes of our customers.

“We’ll be sure to add our own ski and bike led twist to operations!

“I’m incredibly excited about the addition of a third restaurant to the Nevis Range site.

“This restaurant will be serving Scottish Highland Tapas, all locally sourced, and a huge selection of Scottish drinks showcasing some of the incredible local suppliers that we’re so fortunate to have based here in Lochaber.

“This project is possible due to the support of Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE). HIE are investing £800k into this project and I’m delighted that both parties share a vision for the creation of Quality, Sustainable Adventure Tourism Experiences right here in the Outdoor Capital of the UK.”

The Scottish tourism sector has experienced an exceptional boom as a result of the increase in ‘staycation’ holidays over the summer.

Research by Barclays suggested that 23 million Brits had planned a ‘staycation’ this summer, whilst also identifying the Scottish Highlands as the seventh most popular holiday destination.

As a result of the heightened interest in ‘staycations’, the research also suspected that the Scottish Highlands was set to receive £1.135 billion worth of business.
