THE second part of a graduate art show is to return to Glasgow tomorrow and run across ten venues.
The Alternative Degree Show Festival will showcase the work of over a hundred Glasgow School of Art graduates.
The exhibition is student led and will present work from graduate artists from the schools’ fine art disciplines, including sculpture and environmental art, painting and printmaking and photography.
The festival has been created to celebrate the work of fine art graduates and will run until July 18.
Artist’s work will be shown across ten venues in the city, including Pipe Factory, WASPs Studios at The Briggait, The Wash House, Mid Wharf Art and Design, Skypark and Woodland Community Gardens.
Organisers of the festival have worked closely with each venue to make sure they are COVID-safe and visits are done via an online booking system.
Glasgow School of Art have also supported the organisers in preparation ahead of the festival.
Caitlin Callaghan, sculpture and environmental art graduate said: “The Alternative Degree Show Festival is a celebration of artwork from Glasgow School of Art graduates. As artists we are always aiming to take on challenges and adapt to the ever-changing circumstances in society. When the pandemic began, this had a huge effect on our studies and how we created our work.
“We were determined to have a physical showcase of work in a way that would be safe for all those involved. The show took the form of a festival to involve the wider Glasgow community and to showcase the amazing venues across the city. As artists we thrive in showing our work physically and engaging with the public, and this festival aims to do just that.
“At the heart of it all, we just really wanted to show what we could pull off as a group of soon to be graduate artists in the middle of a pandemic. We knew we were taking a risk planning something so ambitious in the current circumstances but, the help and support and general excitement we have received towards the show has been overwhelmingly positive.”
