Video shows young Tartan Army fans partying with Scot who had not been to pub for 40 years

A HEARTWARMING video has captured the moment an 83-year-old Scot who had not been to a pub for 40 years partied with young Tartan Army fans.

Bernard Drumm was filmed absolutely in his element as a group of late-teens took him under their wing at The Olde Burnt Barns in the East End of Glasgow last night.

The pensioner, from Calton in Glasgow, was filmed jumping around and smiling with joy whilst watching the Croatia versus Scotland match.

Bernard was taken out by his neighbours and enjoyed a boogie with the youngsters while they jumped around to popular Scotland football chants.

The former agricultural worker had not danced since his days at the legendary Barrowland Ballroom back in the 1960s.

And after the night down the pub, Bernard told one of his neighbours that he had woken up in the middle of the night with Yes Sir, I Can Boogie stuck in his head.

The adorable footage shows the OAP beaming with pride whilst wearing a Scotland football strip that he borrowed from one of his neighbours.

During the clip Bernard can be seen centre stage with the group of football fans as they sing and break into dance.

They are then shown ruffling the elderly’s Scot’s hair affectionately after wrapping a Lion Rampant flag around his shoulders.

The Scot then joins in with the dancing a little bit and can be seen punching his hands in the air while he boogies.

The ecstatic fans then switch to chanting “Super John McGinn” – another firm favourite chant amongst the Tartan Army this tournament.

Bernard is now jigging along the group as they belt out Yes Sir, I can Boogie while bouncing up and down.

Bernard’s neighbours decided to take him to the pub to watch the EURO 2020 match after realising he had not been to the pub for four decades.

The pensioner, who turns 84-years-old next month, lived through WWII and remembers the Nazis bombing Glasgow.

Speaking today, one of neighbours who captured the footage, said: “The young lads were careful while dancing around him and were really polite and lovely boys.

“Their folks should be proud.

“When Scotland scored we all jumped including Bernard. He’s part of our crew now.

“He really understands the game so he took a seat next to my friend’s brother whilst they had a chat.

“He’s had nobody to go with. He is brilliant, he made my night, it wasn’t the other way around.

“He said after the game that he had Yes Sir, I Can Boogie stuck in his head.

“There will be many visits to the pub in the future.”

Scotland’s time in Euro 2020 came to a devastating end last night as the team were beaten 3-1 by Croatia.

They scored one goal in the three matches they played during the tournament.

Bernard, who hasn’t had a drink in ten years, remembers his last visit to the East End pub all the way back in the 1970’s.

“It’s still the same inside but it’s been expanded and has a beer garden now. I’ve been off the drink for ten years but I had a pint for the Scotland match.
Continuing, the 87 year old said: “I’ve got a long association with the pub. It was good to be back and great fun, I just hope I didn’t make a fool of myself.
“It’s all good natured fun. I feared the worst before the match and was surprised when we equalised. But I’ll definitely watch some more of the games.”
He continued: “The Tartan Army is a lot bigger today and the culture is different.
“There was no travelling abroad to games when I was their age.
“After being in lockdown for so long, and isolated, the best thing about the pub is the atmosphere and the company.”
