Amazing video shows crowd of Scots dancing and singing along to buskers

AN AMAZING video shows the moment a crowd of Scots gathered around a group of buskers to sing and dance along to hits including Champagne Supernova.

The clip shows a large crowd of Scots gathering to watch three buskers on Buchanan Street in Glasgow on Saturday as they belted out hits in the sunshine.

Dozens of Scots can be seen smiling away while they sing along to Champagne Supernova, I Will Wait and Sex on Fire.

Groups of friends are also shown holding onto each other and swaying along to the music as they happily join in.

Maria McAveety, 22, Liam Doyle, 27 and Lori, 18, ended up playing for around five hours after large crowds joined in for the majority of their stint.

The trio were asked to play Scottish songs by footie fans – performing Caledonia, Flower of Scotland and even Yes Sir, I Can Boogie.

Speaking today, Maria said: “There were hundreds of people dancing and singing the whole time and requesting Scottish tunes.

“We got asked to play the Proclaimers, Flower of Scotland and Yes Sir, I Can Boogie countless times.

“We were loving it, just kept looking at each other in disbelief. They were there so long but we were getting worried about running out of songs!

Maria continued: “We decided we would try busking on a Saturday night especially since pubs were open back up again for inside, we thought it would be busy. Right from when we started from like half past four we were getting big crowds of people stopping.

“‘I Will Wait’ always goes down really well and everyone ran into the middle and started dancing.

“We kept singing upbeat songs and the crowds stayed like that from about seven until we left at like half past nine or so.

“When we packed up people were all patting us on the back and thanking us and then we went and got a Chinese!

“Great wee night all round.

Liam said: “It was unreal.

“We played one song and a crowd started to gather and then it just grew from there. Amazing feeling playing to a crowd again.

“I’ve missed an audience and I know the public have missed live music massively.

“No fights, No arguing. Just people having a great time and of all ages.

“It gives me hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel, and with the vaccination roll out in full flow, it’s time we got on with things!”

Jason Craig, who was in the crowd, said: “It was a nice moment.

“One of those moments you missed more than being out for dinner, in a pub, at a sporting event… Just a group of strangers coming together in a humbling moment to some good music.”

Videos were shared on Twitter later on the same day and gained over 2,000 likes and dozens of comments from social media users.

One Twitter user wrote: “Excellent too see, I hope most of them put a wee donation in to your box. Must have been a good feeling for the band to have everyone join in.”

Another said: “Fantastic stuff.”

And another social media user added: “Love it.”
