Edinburgh International Festival Announces 2021 Programme

AFTER a year hiatus the world renowned Edinburgh International Festival has announced its line up for this year.

The International Festival will welcome the return of live performances in Scotland by providing a platform for artists to return to the stage after over a year.

This year’s programme features over 170 classical and contemporary music, theatre, opera, dance and spoken word performances, including 15 new commissions and premieres.

Audience safety is central to the planning of the 2021 Festival, with measures including outdoor venues, social distancing, shorter performances with no intervals and online access to 21 free full-length performances.

The Festival kicks off in August with the Aberdeen Standard Investments Opening Event: Night Light, which takes place at the Botanic Gardens.

Its a free large-scale fire night-walk, created by artist collective Compagnie Carabosse, that combines fire sculptures with live traditional Scottish music.

The 2020 Edinburgh International Festival was cancelled for the first time in its history due to concerns around the Covid-19 pandemic.

Live music will return to the capital this year though with the festival commencing on the 7th of August and running throughout the rest of the month.
