Scottish strawberries to hit supermarkets after a delay due to weather

SCOTTISH-GROWN strawberries will hit supermarkets this week after a delay in production due to bad weather.

The beginning of the strawberry season was delayed by a few weeks due to poor weather, but this won’t impact the availability of berries this summer.

Over 74 tonnes of premium Scottish-grown AVA strawberries will be available across the UK.

AVA berries have been selected for big UK supermarkets special produce range.

AVA berries offer delicious strawberries which are grown across the northeast coast of Scotland in Perthshire and Fife which has the ideal climate for producing the perfect strawberry.

AVA berries became the first brand of strawberries to be sold in premium sections of UK supermarkets and are now available in Aldi, Morrison’s, the Co-op and in M&S stores as part of their special ranges.

Jill Witheyman, head of marketing at AVA Berries said: “Scotland produces the finest strawberries in the world and the news that top quality AVA strawberries are readily available from supermarkets across the UK from this week is welcome.”

“Last year was a record season for AVA Berries and we’re projecting a 30 per cent increase in volumes grown in Scotland this summer to keep up with the demand.

“We’re finding that consumers are seeking out top quality berries more than they did previously, and are enjoying our AVA strawberries in different ways, whether that is in a salad or a cocktail – or simply straight from the punnet as a healthy snack.”

Strawberries offer a range of different vitamins, fibre and antioxidants making them the perfect healthy snack.

The berries are selected due to their special appearance and flavour, they also have a longer shelf life, allowing consumers to take their rime to enjoy.

Strawberries have natural sources of vitamin C, which supports a healthy immune system, they are also packed with fibre and antioxidants.
