A LIFEBOAT launched at 2.15 pm today after reports of a casualty stuck on the shoreline in Applecross who had fallen.
Kyle lifeboat ‘Spirit of Fred. Olsen’ launched at the request of the UK Coastguard.
It went towards the area and arrived at 2.35 pm, by which time the Scottish Ambulance Service and a local Coastguard team were already on scene.
Two of the lifeboat crew members went ashore to assess the situation and liaise with the other emergency services.
They managed to safely package up the casualty and lift her off the shoreline and up the steep banking to the awaiting ambulance, where she was further assessed before being transferred to the UK Coastguard helicopter.
The lifeboat was then stood down and departed the scene at 3.00 pm.
The lifeboat returned to the station and was refueled and made ready for service by 3.30 pm.
Speaking of the incident, a Kyle spokesperson said “The casualty was transported to the new Helicopter Landing pad by ambulance before being airlifted to hospital by the UK Coastguard helicopter from Inverness.
“This is the first time that the new community funded landing pad in Applecross has been used, and it was great to see everything come together and work so smoothly.
“I am sure that this will be the first of many times to come, where the landing pad makes a real difference to this community.”
