Scots baker creates huge Celtic Park cake for footie star Scott Brown

A SCOTS baker has crafted a huge Celtic Park stadium cake for footie star Scott Brown to mark the end of his time at the club.

Christie Howieson from Cake Days a Week was approached by the footballer’s wife Lisa after she had spotted some of the baker’s incredible football cakes in the past.

The Glasgow-based baker doesn’t follow much football so didn’t initially realise who the cake was for until her fiancé Jonny Boyle told her.

Lisa had arranged for the 28-year-old to bake the Celtic themed cake to celebrate her hubby’s departure from the club.

Lisa later sent Christie a photograph of the former Celtic captain smiling while standing behind the impressive creation.

The cake, which weighed between one and two stone, was shaped to replicate the 60,411 seater stadium where Brown spent 14 years playing for the club.

The cake has tremendous detail, showcasing the stands, the football pitch and the intricate brickwork of the front entrance.

The highly skilled baker has also paid tribute to the Celtic legend by creating a banner on top of the back left hand side of the stadium, reading: “Captain, leader, legend.”

Not being a football fan, Christie didn’t realise who the cake was for at first.                                      (C) Cake Days a Week

Multiple other sculptures decorate the stadium, including green and white footballs, a Celtic badge and a detailed model of Brown perched on top, wearing his Celtic strip.

Brown’s yellow captain’s armband has even been included in the masterpiece.

Cake Days a Week posted the impressive cake to Facebook yesterday writing: “I had the absolute pleasure of making this baby for Scott Brown’s family celebrating his Celtic career.

“I cannot thank Lisa enough for asking me to be part of such a special celebration- good luck for the future @broony08.”

The post now holds over 1,000 likes, with dozens of Facebook users impressed by the beautifully crafted confectionary.

Leo Moran wrote: “Absolutely amazing pal, your work is brilliant.”

Louise Boyle said: “Wow, that’s absolutely fantastic. A work of art.”

Frances Martin commented: “What a cake, amazing.

“Well done.”

Anne Easdale replied: “Cake looks amazing, great job.”

Tracy Mulholland also wrote: “Well done, you smashed it out the park (pardon the pun).

“It’s a belter.”

Speaking today Christie, said: “It was actually huge, I was really struggling to lift it.

“It took around two and half days to make.

“It’s hard to tell but I think it weighed at least a stone, maybe two.

“I’m not a big football fan so I didn’t put two and two together.

“I was just really embarrassed that I didn’t notice (who it was) to begin with.

“Everyone I make seems to get bigger.

“It’s so nice when your work gets recognised.

“Lisa said it went down a treat and Scott loved it.

“The reaction has been so lovely.”

This isn’t the first time that Christie has been credited for her beautifully detailed cakes, with impressive Celtic Park and Ibrox versions making the papers in the past.
