“Needed something to keep the kids away from the fire” – Social media ridicule artist for portrait of Nicola Sturgeon

AN EBAY seller has been ridiculed on Twitter after attempting to sell a portrait of Nicole Sturgeon – which according to users “belongs in a haunted house.”

According to the item description, the unique piece of art is a “lifelike rendition” of the First Minister – however social media users think otherwise.

The eBay seller Laurie Pitt has described the portrait sale as a “once in a lifetime opportunity” and has listed the hand painted artwork for £270.

The seller is looking for £270 for the portrait.

Laurie, from Glasgow, described the painting as: “Nicola Sturgeon SNP original hand painted framed portrait. Scottish legend.”

Nicola can be seen wearing a red suit in the portrait and donning a smile.

Despite having light brown hair in real life, the “lifelike” painting has adorned the First Minister with ginger locks.

The painting shows Nicole Sturgeon with the words “Ya wee dafty” painted over her.

The words “Ya wee dafty” are painted across the bottom of the painting in white acrylic paint and the bottom corner also has “SNP” painted in white.

The item is described as the seller as: “This is once in a lifetime opportunity to purchase a unique portrait of one of the greatest modern world leaders – Nicola Sturgeon.

“This lifelike rendition is lovingly painted in vibrant acrylic, with “YA WEE DAFTY” and “SNP” written in white.

The eBay seller describes the painting as a “likelike rendition”.

“The picture is framed in a quality maroon frame with a gold trim. The size including the frame is 30cm x 43cm.”

Despite this, the questionable painting has been slammed by social media users who can’t see any resemblance to the First Minister.

@AgentP22 sarcastically posted images of the sale, saying: “What a bargain. Only £270. So lifelike.”

Social media users have been ridiculing the painting since it was posted onto Twitter.

@keithj55 replied: “Great, needed something to keep the kids away from the fire.”

@robertM68162508 posted: “That belongs in a haunted house.”

@pennylongs commented: “Who will buy this s***.”

@Dyinfy also said: “As a dart board it’s quite effective.”

Speaking today, the artist said that portrait was “undeniably realistic and lifelike”.

He said: “With this painting, I tried to capture the playful side of Nicola which I why she is saying “ya wee dafty” to the viewer.

“It seems to me, that the negative comments on twitter are more to do with a dislike of Nicola as a person, rather than the painting itself which is undeniably realistic and lifelike.

“It took me four hours to paint.

“I have received one offer for the painting today but I am holding out for a higher bidder if possible.”
