Martin Boyle fitness latest ahead of Hibs’ clash with Kilmarnock

HIBERNIAN are hopeful that key winger Martin Boyle will be fit to face Kilmarnock on Saturday.

The Australia internationalist was a notable absentee during the Hibees’ 1-1 draw against Celtic on Monday evening after rolling his ankle in training.

It was the first Premiership match Boyle has missed this season, with the former Dundee and Montrose man boasting five goals in 29 appearances in all competitions.

However, it is understood there is no serious ligament damage and Hibs medical chiefs reckon the 27-year-old could be back in contention for the visit of Killie.

The fitness of Joe Newell is also being monitored after he limped off at Celtic Park.

Meanwhile, Lewis Stevenson has hailed Neil Lennon as the manager who got the best out of him.

The Easter Road legend racked up his 500th outing when he entered the fray as a half-time substitute against the Hoops, with the left-back sitting number five in the club’s all-time appearance list.

And he looks back on his time working under Lennon as his most impressive run of form, even if it also saw him receive some of his most memorable dressing downs.

Stevenson told Sky Sports News: “My best football was probably under Neil Lennon. He got the best out of me.

“He was a hard taskmaster at times and we had some big fallouts – but I think he appreciated what I was doing.

LOBOTOMY

“He got the best out of me and the best out of the team. At times it was tough, but it was great, looking back.

“I remember we were about 10 games into the season after I got my Scotland cap and we were playing a home game and he shouted ‘did you get a lobotomy in South America because you’ve not kicked a ball since coming back!’

“I’ve had a few rollockings in my time but Neil Lennon will be up there with the worst.”
