A DISTILLERY due to open at John O’Groats has unveiled a new bottling ahead of its launch next year.
The Highland single malt forms part of a limited collection from 8 Doors Distillery, which is set to be the most northernly mainland whisky producer.
Whisky master John Ramsay has developed the bottling along with three others to make up the ‘874 Club’, the first collection from the Caithness distillery.
The 874 Club, named for the 874 miles between Land’s End and John O’Groats, comprises four 70cl bottles, including its “prized” first bottling and the latest Highland single malt edition.
Its producers say the tipple, called ‘Whisky. From the Edge’, will be deeply influenced by the local climate and its situation right beside the sea.
The bottle will be available along with the three others for £420, with an an option to pay disperse payment over ten months.
Kerry Campbell, co-founder of 8 Doors Distillery, said the decision came after many whisky-lovers missed out on the distillery’s first release.
She said: “As well as being great for anyone wanting to treat themselves, the 874 Club membership would be a great Christmas present for family and friends.
“It would give them the opportunity to be part of the new whisky legacy we’re creating in John O’Groats.”
She also revealed the launch in on track. Kerry added:“Our plans to open the distillery and visitor centre next summer are progressing well.
“It is amazing to reach our water source and to see groundworks start on the site.”
