Gilson Gray has announced seven new promotions, including one Legal Director, four associates, and two Senior Solicitors, as it underlines its commitment to attract and retain Scotland’s best and brightest legal talent.
Cheryl Edgar has been promoted to Legal Director within the market leading Residential Conveyancing team, based in East Lothian. Jean McAlpine and Emma Cowie were promoted to Associate and Senior Solicitor respectively in the same department.
Iain Grant and Fraser Cameron have become an Associate and Senior Solicitor in the award winning Litigation and Dispute Resolution team, while Joe Davies has been promoted to Private Client Associate.
Shona Young, who was promoted to Senior Solicitor in the Family Law team last year, has been again been promoted to the role of Associate.
The promotions reinforce the firm’s culture of recognising and rewarding its talented staff.
The staff changes, alongside its Scotland-wide presence, are also central to Gilson Gray’s commitment to provide vital support to clients through the Coronavirus crisis.
It has already offered free legal advice on Covid funding to businesses that need help at this time as well as creating a valuable resource on guidance and advice on its website.
Glen Gilson, Managing Partner at Gilson Gray, said: “It’s incredibly satisfying and makes us proud to see our talented staff to grow and to continue their progression and careers with us.
“When we founded the firm six years ago, our main driver was to create a strong culture and create a pathway to become the best legal firm in Scotland.
“We battle towards this by pulling out all the stops for our people and for our clients, especially during the extreme challenges presented by the Coronavirus.
“This is clearly a difficult time for Scottish businesses. Our focus is to do all we can to support our team members and to help the Scottish business community right now, as they have supported us since launch.”
Gilson Gray’s rapid rise to become one of the country’s leading law firms has been based on cherry picking and harnessing the skills of the top legal talent in Scotland, providing them with the best environment to flourish.
Over the past year, the firm has completed a number of takeovers which have swelled its staff portfolio, including Coulters Lettings and Glasgow-based Millar Campbell Solicitors. This saw the firm assume a significant lettings and property management capability, led by Sam Paulo and Marcus Di Rollo, together with a market leading licensing operation led by the highly regarded Joanna Millar.
Gilson Gray also merged with Dundee lettings firm, Wallace and Co Property Management, securing the significant talents of Elaine Wallace and well known property figure Derek Tyson, signalling their entry into the Dundee market and intent to become one of the leading legal, property and financial services providers in that region.
These milestones have allowed Gilson Gray to expand its full-service capabilities across the country.
Established in 2014, Gilson Gray has become one of Scotland’s fastest growing and most prominent law firms. Its full suite of legal, property and financial services showcases one of the widest service ranges in the country. Indeed, Gilson Gray Financial Management, the firm’s investment arm, is one of the largest investment businesses of type now in Scotland.
Despite a market trend towards English takeover, Gilson Gray has kept its sovereignty and therefore ability to control its domestic pricing and provide a truly relevant product to the Scottish market. The firm has now amassed a staggering 30 separate awards since launch, with repeated accolades such as Full Service Firm of the Year and Corporate Firm of the Year. They occupy six offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee and East Lothian, each of which offers Gilson Gray’s full range of property, legal and financial services.
Managing Partner Glen Gilson is regarded as one of the leading figures in Scottish law and has been recognised as Managing Partner of the Year twice in the past six years
