ALDI have apologised after a customer posted revolting pictures of a tin full of rotten rice pudding – still two years off its best before date.
Gavin Glover’s sickening snaps show the can full of grey gloop with what appears to be white fungus on the top.
The dad of two bought the 40p can from his local store in Towcester, Northamptonshire, as it is one of his children’s favourites.
Gavin, who works for a vehicle recovery company, claims his wife was nearly sick after opening up the foetid tin.
The “gutted” father of two shared the images on social media, writing: “Very upset children tonight.
“They love the Aldi rice pudding – opened the tin up to find it full of mould.”
Speaking today, Gavin said: “We buy it as a cheap pudding for our children.
“They love the Aldi own brand so needless to say they were gutted when my wife opened the can to find this she was nearly sick.”
He added: “I’ve never come across a tin that’s been mouldy before.
“I tried to ring Aldi last night around 18.30 and could not get through so I took to Twitter and Facebook to try and get a reply and still no response from them.
“I’m not fussed about a refund – it couldn’t have cost anymore then 40p. It’s just the principle. It has a use by date of 09/21 so still one year 9 months to go. I would hate to see what it would have been like if we had opened it in August of 2020.”
An Aldi spokesman said: “We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused Mr Glover and encourage him to return the product to store for a full refund.
“Although rare, incidents like this can occasionally occur if packaging is damaged at any point before the product is consumed, as the contents may be exposed to air.”
