Why you shouldn’t rely on Jobcentre recruitment

Jobcentre is the UK’s official hub for those who are looking to employ and for those who are seeking open vacancies. As such, business owners may think that this is an excellent resource when it comes to employing eager new talent for a workforce.

The reality, however, is that Jobcentre isn’t all that it’s made out to be. As a government-run employment agency, it has its problems. These problems could end up costing your business a great loss or as an employee, you could find yourself in a position you are not happy with.

In this article, we will take a brief delve into why you shouldn’t rely on Jobcentre recruitment.

Jobcentre Recruitment Can Disappoint Employers

When a business advertises a vacancy via Jobcentre, then it is not uncommon to receive dozens of applications in a very short space of time. This may seem like a good thing, but on scanning the CVs, you’ll soon realise that many (if not most) of the applicants are not serious about the position.

You see, those without work are encouraged to apply for jobs so that they can continue to receive unemployment benefits. As a result, they send out a few token CVS every month, just to meet the minimum criteria to collect their weekly payment.

This means that you would need to scour through heaps of forms to find the qualifying gems in between.

Genuine Job Seekers Are Struggling to Be Noticed

While many of Jobcentre’s users are gaming the system, there still are people who use the service in the hopes of finding good employment. There are plenty of genuine job seekers who send in their application forms, but because the organisation is flooded with those who abuse the service, very few find success.

Job seekers are also battling to find quality jobs through Jobcentre. Many hope to find positions where they can climb corporate ladders. But because the service is so saturated with chance takers, large and serious companies prefer not to advertise their openings with this agency (they just couldn’t be bothered with all of the time-wasters).

The System is Flawed and Outdated

Why do you think there are so many individuals submitting casual and disqualifying job applications? It’s because the system allows it! With so many loopholes, it’s no wonder that many people are gaming the system! And getting away with it!

The Good News

Despite its drawbacks, Jobcentre does still have the potential to connect a good employee with a good employer. It is a free resource after all and those hidden gems can be found.

Still, if you can do your own private recruiting through your HR department, all the better.

The Bottom Line

If you want to use a resource that is completely free when you are on the hunt for excellent talent, then the Jobcentre is a valid option. But you must be prepared to be patient if you want to get the best results. There is always the option to invest in software like Cezanne’s cloud based HR software which is one of many that can provide assistance with internal recruitment processes instead.
