Where do celebs go on holiday?

The rich and famous make no bones about showing off their lavish lifestyles by posting snap after snap of their holidays across their social media channels, but where exactly are they?

If you’re looking for a little A-list celeb luxury, facilities such as infinity pools and swim-up suites are standard, but you don’t have to break the bank to enjoy the same luxuries or holiday in the same destinations. Here are five of the top celebrity holiday hangouts:

  1. Barbados

Hot all year round and with plenty of exclusive resorts, the west coast of Barbados is a steadfast celebrity hotspot, especially during the pesky winter months that the rest of us have to endure. Many of the more upmarket hotels have their own private beach, guaranteeing privacy and the chance to actually get away from it all, which must be rare when everybody recognises your face.

Who you could see: Rihanna, Simon Cowell and Mariah Carey through to homegrown celebrities like Wayne and Coleen Rooney holiday in Barbados regularly.

  1. Ibiza

Ibiza has become a holiday playground for stars who want to luxuriate in a laid-back atmosphere, chill out on amazing beaches and take advantage of the unapologetically raucous nightlife in certain regions. It’s not all sunbathing and partying though, as those who own a property here will most likely also take advantage of a mooring in Marina Botafoch, while shopping and stopping for a spot of lunch in the most chic and expensive part of the island.

Who you could see: Idris Elba, Anne Hathaway, Shakira and Calvin Harris are all huge fans of Ibiza.

  1. Dubai

Celebrities holiday in Dubai for many reasons, but the invention of seven-star hotels is definitely a major factor. Anybody can stay in a five-star, after all. Desert safaris, a world-famous shopping mall, private skydiving sessions and amazing nightlife all combine with Dubai’s natural propensity for all things lavish and glitzy to draw celebs in, like moths to bright golden flames. They also aren’t above getting a little starstruck themselves, with quite a few, Leonardo DiCaprio being one of them, fanboying over the Salt Bae cooking their food.

Who you could see: Justin Bieber, Zac Efron, The Jonas Brothers and Bella Hadid lead the stars that flock to this amazing part of the world.

  1. Mykonos

Mykonos has always been popular with celebrities, right back to the golden days of Hollywood, when the likes of Grace Kelly, Marlon Brando and Elizabeth Taylor would swoop in for a break. Today, young celebs are heading back to the island in their droves, leading many to call it the ‘new Ibiza’, as the party scene is hotter than ever. Stunning beaches, plenty of clubs and backdrops perfect for Instagram posts mean that everybody from fashion and travel influencers through to A-list celebrities are booking their flights.

Who you could see: Richard Branson, Alessandra Ambrosio, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lindsay Lohan are all regular visitors.

  1. The Maldives

The sheer number of islands to choose from makes the Maldives a favourite holiday option for celebrities, as they can almost guarantee privacy. Away from prying eyes, in a secluded private villa with its own beach, well-known faces can disappear for a while and just relax. Endless spa treatments, chefs experienced in crafting extremely healthy, delicious dishes and resort professionals that think nothing of putting guests needs above everything else mean that there are few places better to visit. The incredible weather, picture perfect beaches and lack of baying fans won’t hurt either.

Who you could see: Previous visitors include the Kardashians, Ronan Keating, Elizabeth Hurley, John Legend and the Beckhams.

Holiday celeb-spotting is all well and good, but if you’re planning to take a trip in the hopes of seeing some famous faces, you’d be better off trying to identify the hot new up-and-coming destinations. In the meantime, just enjoy a hard-earned break yourself.
