“My cats have brought home bigger birds!” Mum blasts Sainsbury’s over chicken smaller than a table fork

A SAINSBURY’S customer has posted hilarious pictures of her roast in the bag chicken that turned out smaller than a table fork.

Mum-of-three Marissa Farrar shelled out £4.50 for the 1.4kg bird that supposedly provides enough meat for five people.

So the 40-year-old was astonished to open the bag and discover the chicken, while beautifully cooked, was barely six inches long.

To prove her point, Marissa from Exeter, took a photograph with a standard table fork alongside the bird.

The author of romance and fantasy novels even photographed the fork alongside a tape measure to remove any room for doubt.

She shared the photo of the roast online with the caption: “Look at the size of this Sainsbury’s roast in the bag chicken!

“I’ve put a fork next to it to show how tiny it is. My cats have brought home bigger birds!”

Sainsbury’s website advertises the Roast in the Bag Garlic & Parsley Basted Whole British Chicken as weighing 1.4kg.

Marissa says the product’s packaging meant she was unable to see how big her joint was until she took it out of the oven.

Marissa’s post has had social media users in disbelief.

Alison Greig wrote: “Are they having a laugh?”

Scott Pixello joked: “Has the local pigeon population mysteriously gone down?”

Kerry Foyle added: “It’s a budgie.”

And Anne Lown said: “Sylvester will think you’ve cooked his Tweetie.”

Speaking today, Marissa said: “I didn’t notice that it looked especially small, but it was a cook in the bag one, so you couldn’t really see.

I think it was supposed to be 1.4kg, which I suspect was mostly water! I would say it was probably six inches in length.

“My reaction was disbelief, together with dismay at how I was going to feed my family of five with it!

“Luckily my husband has a habit of peeling too many potatoes, so we all filled up on them.

“The experience has put me off, I definitely won’t be buying it again.”

A Sainsbury’s spokesman said: “We offer our customers a range of chickens at different sizes and weights. All our packaging for chickens is clearly labelled with their weight.”
